They have these other things that work great too. Maybe you've heard of them. They are called 'fingers'. Usually they are attached to these other things called 'hands'.

Psss…pssss….. you don’t need to spend money to achieve this effect friend; if you look at the front derailleur there’s two screws with ‘H’ and ‘L’ on them. If you just unwind them all the way back and remove them, you’ll get this same revolutionary effect. Thank me when you’re going 40mph down a descent later 👍

it's supposed to keep tension off the chain for putting in a master link, i work at a bike shop and we don't waste money on these, cut and bend a spoke for a really cheap solution

It’s a third hand tool, that makes it easier to connect/disconnect the chain links or quick links. If you use it for that it’s a handy tool, there’s one in my Halfords MTB tool kit

It is a necessary tool if you want to damage your crank arm but your chain won't drop on its own, because your bike is set up correctly.

Ok so. I think this would be much more appreciated on a BMX or something. All It really takes is for you to push the back of the derailleur pulley and your chain practically comes off by itself lol

Pull the rear mechanism towards the pedal and it becomes loose then pull the chain over the crank exactly the same !!
