The biggest problem for the Federal government would be that after Texas seceded, there would be at least 10 other states that would follow suit and quickly join together.

I could see Texas leave when 4 million more illegals come through and DC says they have to stay in Texas. The strain that the US government is putting on Texas just might be be the last straw.

I am in full support that Texas wants to become its own sovereign state because if the federal government is not protecting the integrity of a border and allowing millions of illegal aliens, then the people should decide for themselves. It's clear that the US government abandoned Texas a long time ago.

I do not blame any state from leaving this fallen country behind to uphold longstanding and true values of the America we once knew.

We chose the right to join the US in 1845 as a Republic so we can just easily leave no matter what they say.

International Law allows any group of people, to have a vote, and form an independent nation, Texas has that right...and in time can use it.

As a Tennessean I’d support our big angry brother. There’s a bunch of talk on here about TX couldn’t defend itself. The author must be from New England 😂 TX will fight anyone like a pissed off rattlesnake. There a lot of other states that would join also. I’m sure you can imagine which ones, plus some newer ones

It wouldn't just be Texas, but also some of the South and most of the Midwest. We are all connected through family, lifestyle, and economies, and share a lot more in common than we do with the Northeast and West Coast.

I've been telling my fellow Texans this for so long, we would be much more prosperous with out the US. We bring so much oil in...

it is weird you can join a union voluntarily but you cannot leave it. It is like being stuck in a marriage forever

Short answer: no.
Long answer: no, but with history.

I don’t see why not, given how supportive we are of all the other independence movements around the globe. It would be hypocritical otherwise

If Texas were it's own country it would be the 8th largest economy in the world. Trouble would come however when many large US based companies now find themselves NOT in the US anymore they may relocate taking their contributions to the economy with them. Unless trade amongst Texas and the US remains relatively the same with no added complications.

The 10th Ammendment is one of the strongest ammendments, and one of the ones mostly destroyed by the Supreme Court.

Could Texas do it? Yes.

Would it do well on its own? not sure? is it worth it. Absolutely.

Any Texan who is interested in the topic of secession should read Daniel Miller's 2011 book titled Line in the Sand. He answers just about every question and concern surrounding the idea and eliminates any doubt that Texas can, or should, peacefully secede from the United States.
