Just because a new speaker is earning rave reviews, that's not reason enough to buy it!

It's finding a buyer for old stuff first. That's the game, not buy first then sell.

It's called the "Diderot Effect" after the French writer. Once you have a knife, you need a sheath. And then a belt to wear it. Then a display case to showcase your collection (which has grown). Then a room dedicated to the display case...and new furniture...and writers of the French Enlightenment were aware of this never-ending-story, Thanks much, Steve.

Just spent this week helping a handicapped friend repair his 1983 Luxman amplifier and repair rubber seals on his loudspeakers. I added a Bluetooth adapter and setup is Micro Seiki turntable (which he had no idea how much it was worth). Total cost came to 40$

It provides the rest of us with a great second hand market.

I recently bought new pair of Carnwall's IV. I love them so much that I decided to super-glue them to the floor in case I was ever tempted selling or replacing them.

I have been on a journey of discovery for the last month. Last week I bought a couple of Klipsch RP-600M and a Rotel A14 amp. You know what, I'm pretty happy. I'm not an "audiophile" per se, but I know what I like. I found out about this wonderful "echo chamber" of Youtube reviewers. A couple I knew of already, but Mr. Guttenberg and a couple of others ( in fact mentioned in this video) were new to me. I really liked listening and watching their reviews, unboxings, even a few sound demos and then checking out what's available. This was really new to me, without any pre-conceived notions about this or that. Refreshing to say the least. I learned about the wondrous KEF LS50 Metas, the SVS Primes, the different Klipsch variants, and a few more. I actually checked out some speakers way out of my price range, like the Klipsch Heresy's and the like. Just to get some sort of reference. I really enjoyed the journey of discovery, but now maybe I should tone down (excuse the pun) the review watching and maybe, just maybe, unsubscribe from some of you guys. I'm all good, but someones mantioned that the grass might be greener over there...no no no, time to stop! =)

Its is great to hear you speak about other reviewers as peers. Bravo! There are other reviewers and audio critics out there who create content built on condescension and ridicule of others. Keep being positive Steve!

I'm very happy with my magnapan MGlls...in fact, couldn't be happier. I will admit that listening to some reviews makes me wonder what I might be missing, but I immediately listen to something I love on my speakers, and it all goes away. Thanks, Steve!

You’re absolutely right!
Don’t go broke getting the “latest and greatest”.
Move and set up your speakers in the listening room ..or reconfigure the room ..or another room …in the end ..are you in a comfy chair ( Herman Miller ) …Also, even was the last time you cleaned your ears…..
There’s so so much you can do !
Btw, love the pictures 🥲

STEVE! (Martin Logan man here)

I about fell out of my kitchen chair when you selected that beautiful Masterpiece Martin Logan speaker/system photo! It is pretty much now I arranged my space WOW! Finally a big nod to the brand THANK YOU sir! My ML 9.2's / Parasound matchup are my end game and all I can afford.

In recent weeks, I am having fun restoring old systems. Latest just completed is a near complete Bang and Olufsen 6500 series (from '89-'91 era). Took me TWO eBay purchaces of NON working CD players to make one complete.

The Control center is an amazing table top remote. NEVER have I had a cassette deck that could be completely controlled remotely! The Danish company was ahead of it's time back then, servicing this gear is easy and well thought out! Also now in the stable, a restored B.I.C. 960 table, the old stuff STILL sounds GREAT!

I've had my Sony floorstanders for ten+ years now, and I only upgrade when IT'S NECESSARY. As of right now, it's not. Plus I love finding more info on how to do more with them. Stop the trend train.

Steve thanks for the video. I'm almost a year into my system as it is and started watching videos again. This was the perfect timing to remind me that I don't need anything more right now. I need to enjoy what I have.

As always, you're a trusted voice of reason in the industry.

Steve your absolutely right...!!! If you already have a good set of speakers and you never experimented with them, you have a whole world of possibilities!!! I’ve had a pair a pair of JBL L86s for 35 years and those suckers still sound amazing (1.5 feet off the floor, 2 feet from the back wall and slightly angled in).

Steve, this so spot on. I'm 69, and in 2020 COVID HIBERNATION, forced into retirement from spinal disabilities and chronic pain and stiffness everywhere, I got caught up in the quasi obsession of Stereo madness. It started by the need to have a "sound system" in the finished basement office (bc of COVID home office needs). I always loved music, and I became reacquainted with playing Drums after a 51 Year Hiatus. Thank the Lord for Amazon; I ordered and returned a number of bookshelf speakers and Stereo Receivers. Returned what I didn't like, & Finally settled on Denon DRA 800H Receiver ( don't use it for video, only music for now), 1 pair of Fluance Signature Series Surround HiFi Bookshelf speakers, 1 pair of Elac Debut 6.2s, 1 pair of Elac Reference 6.2s, And 1 pair of KEF Q350s. Total Overkill, however, bc I also purchased a IOTA SA3 integrated Amp, and a Emotiva A300 Amp. I play the "systems" in unison or at times, separately. Although, not knocking your channel or others (cheap audioman, Zero fidelity), obsessiveness forces the search for the " Best" of everything one shops for. Your Reason No. 1 is so relative. It is very easy to catch yourself getting bit by the new and best bug. Your advice about being content with what you have is Golden.

Steve, you give absolutely great advices. I get a lot of enjoyment learning and tweaking and getting the most out of my older audio system without upgrading to new ones. Virtually everything I do to improve my own system applies to any other system. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others when choosing a system to their particular, individualized, preferences. Many of my friends end up with systems sounding better than they could have imagined AND spending less than they expected. Being an audio enthusiast, to me, is more in the quest for knowledge to effect the true beauty of sound than the unending quest for ownership of the illusive perfection.

Great video, Steve! Thanks for mentioning me. moving stuff around is so much fun to get different sound. Newer isn’t always better.

I love the new format with a featured system at the end of each show. As always thanks for the entertainment and love your work Steve.

Steve, this only points up your sane approach to equipment. I really appreciate that you often choose affordable amps, speakers, etc. to review as well as the high end stuff. This video reminds me of some musicians I’ve worked with that assume the next stomp box or the new amp will somehow translate into them being a better player. Anyway, thanks for the reminder.

Absolutely Steve. People can often get the most sound quality improvements with adjustments that cost little to nothing. When I bought my LS 50s I wasn't very impressed because I set them on top of tower speakers that resonate a lot. I noticed a big improvement when placed on homemade sand filled stands, but the stands were wobbly because I slapped them together quickly as proof of concept and used ABS 4"pipe instead of steel. I was blown away by the sound improvement when I got solid sand filled stands. I put a throw rug down in front of the speakers and did some other room treatments and now I am very happy with the LS 50s.

Had I just bought more expensive speakers I would still have the same problems and wouldn't be happy with sound quality.
