Predictive Awareness: Mastering the Narcissist’s Manipulative Games

In this video, Ross Rosenberg, M.Ed., LCPC, CADC discusses why the use of "Predictive Awareness" and mastery of the narcissist's manipulative games is a successful strategy to counteract narcissistic abuse.

By definition, predictive awareness is the accumulation of accurate information about one's self, the narcissist, and the resulting interactional dynamics following a conflict-laden moment, i.e., setting boundaries to escape narcissistic abuse. With accurate information, plans can be made for the eventuality of setting boundaries in a hostile environment. Such plans maintain the safety of the person escaping.

Predictive Awareness is the primary theoretical and practical construct in Stage 6, "Preparing for the Narcissistic Storm," of his 11-Stage Self-Love Recovery Treatment Program. Stage 6 involves a thoughtful, analytical and proactive period of time when the recovering SLD/codependent prepares for the following Stage 7, "Setting Boundaries in a Hostile Environment." To be successful, they are required to master "predictive awareness" so they can proactively prepare for what will or will not happen in their attempts to permanently escape narcissistic abuse.

Those with Self-Love Deficit Disorder (SLDD)/codependency can outwit the narcissist to avoid manipulation, gaslighting, and narcissistic abuse by preparing for the "narcissistic storm" and using his Of Course! method in conjunction with his Observe Don't Absorb technique.

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."

Huge Dr. Rosenberg fan here🙌 My two-cents here is that if relating to someone feels like a chess game, it's time to go NO CONTACT✋️🚫 But I get what he's saying, know who you're dealing with so they don't catch you off guard with their manipulations. And the reality is some have to deal with a narc on account of having children together so they need to be strategic.

Thankyou for sharing this and the way you articulate this message is very imperative. Chess is an elaborate example of how manipulators ( inner being work) and all the better if you’re not ‘knowledgeable’ in this game for them of course.
It truly is not “ just survival mode “ … this is reality denied in all ways.
Forgive me, I personally take this life seriously because we must and it is not a game. Peace be with all 💜🙏💜🕊️

If you can, learn and constantly keep in mind that the narcissist is all about transaction, and so everything they do, and say, even if it seems nice and good, it’s all for their benefit. They are constantly plotting and constantly manipulating you to work and serve them.

❤🎉I left a narcissist years ago and didnt look back.
They kept trying to contact me but i continued to ignore.
Stable or not I believe no one should stand for abuse.
Sad to say but many today put up with alot.
Ref. Yrs. Ago toronto star section about abuse.
This should be a more recognized subject but too many stay silent.
Also I believe if this was exposed more this wouldnt be so taboo.
But this is reality and with the most innocent!
Blessings

This is true. Entered the ring a couple times without any formal training. Got K.O’d within the first round.

Why are we playing games with people? When you play games with people someone has to win…and it may not be the outcome you’re looking for.

I have no answers bc we have kids together…I’m stuck to him for life.

No can do, not when emotionally numb, dumb and weak. I finally left and No Contact. I tried and tried to play his game but he always outsmarted me and punished me everytime, for 3 years. While it was survival for me, it was only a challenge and a game to him.

This is all easy to say but impossible for some to fight back. And it’s a waste of time and energy for an empath to figure out a narcissist or find any strategy to out-maneuver him.

Sometimes these posts can make us crazy, not being understood and offered platitudes as if that will fix it.
