Same guy, but these pension cards are different. One will get you the record you want, one will not. What other cautions pertain to researching military ancestors?

Thank you for your video...I already knew about the Civil War draft registration in 1863...a paternal great-grandfather was of draft age, but did not serve with the Union Army...he was in the July 1863 draft rolls where he lived in Massachusetts. I did my "reasonably exhaustive search" and have determined that he did not serve in any Union Army regiment in Massachusetts, where he was born, nor in Upstate NY, where most of his children were born in the late 1860s and early 1870s. Also, my father who was born in 1905, has a draft card dated 16 October 1940. At the time, he was working in what would later be considered a defense-oriented job, so he also did not serve in uniform.

Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving, Aimee! After watching this video, it made me wonder if I had the correct card that I'd need to obtain the files. I wish I had been more diligent in using the military tag when I came across a soldier. Now I'll need to search my tree to try and find them 😒It's on my list!
