Thanks! I had a thumb drive that I'd used as a recover disk on an older computer. Didn't need it anymore so went to reformat, only to discover Windows had created a 32 gb partition, leaving me 87 gb unpartitioned. The Disk Management tool in Windows refused to work with it.

Your tutorial worked perfectly, was able to remove the small partition then reformat with no problems. My 128 gb thumbdrive is now fully usable.

Thanks for this guidance ! Pl told me in my USB flash drive. Clean command message (DiskPart has encountered an error: The semaphore timeout period has expired. See the System Event Log for more information) shown on command prompt ! What can i do to complete format my USB.

create partition primary gave me this message, "no usable free extent could be found. it may be that there is insufficient free space to create a partition at the specific site and offset. specify different size and offset values or don't specify either to create a maximum sized partition. it may be that the DISK IS PARTITIONED USING MBR DISK PARTITIONING FORMAT and the disk contains either 4 primary partitions or 3 primary and 1 extended partition.
