This eye color is also more common in Portugal than the global average. But why is there such a concentration of hazel eyes in the Iberian peninsula compared to most other parts of the world? And is the evolution of hazel eyes connected to the genetic history of Iberia?

I have hazel eyes and I'm from Spain. I have never noticed my eyes changing in color depending on my mood, but I have realized they usually become way more golden during summertime, and much greener in the winter - even indoors and under the same light.

A reason why hazel might appear to change colour depending on the mood is that red and green are complimentary colours (i.e. they are opposite in the colour wheel), which means they are so contrasting that they enhance each other when they are next to each other. Which means that when people cry and their eyeballs get red, their irises look greener.

My favorite eye color, it’s amazing, it’s like a mix between yellow, green and brown. I find it extremely beautiful💚💛🤎

I am Spanish, with hazel eyes. As I grow older my eyes are turning greener. Also, I have noticed that if I am tired or sleepy, they get completely green.

I'm Brazilian and I have those. Never notice their color change by mood, but they turn a leaf green in the sunny days, and dark brown in the dark.

I'm Welsh (Cymreag) with a very dark complexion and have hazel eyes. Oral tradition in my part of west Wales was that we, as the 'pobol bach du' (small black people) were descended from Iberian ancestors who migrated up the Atlantic coast. I believe there is some genetic evidence to support this oral history.

José Saramago, a famous Portuguese writer, has a character called Blimunda, whose eye color changed depending on her mood. The character was a confirmation for me of what I had noticed in my hazel eyes. I am Brazilian, descended from Portuguese people. In addition to light, color changes with mood too

I have hazel green eyes! My ancestors include Gaelic peoples, Germanic and Scandinavian. The Scythians are in the family tree also. Since our Gaelic ancestors came at least in part from Iberia, it all fits. How exciting to learn about this!

I was always told growing up that my eyes are light brown, not hazel. And every time I heard about hazel eyes, I wondered what hazel eyes looked like. Nobody could point them out to me, and I gave up my curiosity because the internet wasn't around yet.
Things changed at some point after I started seeing someone who has hazel eyes, but I didn't inquire further or study his eyes well enough right away to understand what makes eyes "hazel" in color.

Within the last year or so I was trying to figure out what my "color season" is, and I kept getting weird results based on the assumption I have light brown eyes, so I went to the mirror and tried to study my eyes without assuming they were brown as I'd always been told.

Holy smokes! My eyes aren't brown! They're hazel! The more I studied them the more I realized I have rings of various colors, like gold, indigo, green, violet, and so on. I took more color season analysis questionnaires and the results suited my complexion, hair color, and make my eyes POP!

I'm tickled that we will likely have hazel eyed children!

I'm from New Zealand and have hazel eyes. I did a DNA test and there is a decent percentage tracing back to Iberian ancestry (mostly Spanish and Portuguese) and also Eastern European (possibly Romania and surrounding areas). I think my eyes mostly appear a lighter brown but the green and gold is mostly noticeable on a sunny day with light shining onto them. I haven't noticed mood changes but will look out for that. Thank you for your videos. Incredibly informative and fascinating

I'm Spanish, 63 years old. I had dark hair, fair skin with lot of freckles and grennish hazel eyes. Now i have a lot of problems with my skin because of the sun. Whem i read that Spanish people have olive skin and tans easily i think hopefully i would have olive skin...
Conclusion, in Spain many people have also pale skin and my dermatologist can attest to this.
