A young Simocephalus

Показать описание
This is a video of a juvenile Simocephalus. Simocephalus is a cladoceran that I find very often in my water sample; in fact, it is the dominant species of cladoceran in my water samples from lakes and ponds. I also find them occasionally in potting soil samples (the ephippia are probably collected with the soil). I like looking at juveniles more than adults because they are small enough to be completely in the sight of the lowest magnification view.
By the way, when they're younger, they resemble Daphnia more because the bottom part of their carapace near the tip hasn't widened out yet.
