Autumn leaves played in the style of Bach on a harpsichord was something I never knew I needed to hear

I hope there's a full cover, or a vid of jazz classics on a harpsichord in a baroque(?) style

Harpsichords are so cool. The first time I heard one in person, it didn't sound real. It sounded like some ethereal creation from nowhere.

It works a lot like an una corda pedal on a grand piano (not an upright, those work differently). It’s a great idea for switching between Baroque and modern pitch.

Irving Berlin could play piano only in the key of F sharp. He had a special piano built with a keyboard that would shift back and forth so he could play in different keys.

Cool! Akin to the scale changer harmoniums of India. The one I play can shift both up and down 4 half steps from C. However, the instrument has less keys as a result, compared with a regular harmonium, to accommodate for the 8 extra positions it can shift into.

Menu diving, 1750 style... "oh, I had no idea my keyboard had that feature!"

Was that 1/2 note shift often necessary because there were two common standard tunings? I believe that even today, there are orchestras around the world which tune to five slightly different A pitches.

Sounds like a medieval harp or something😂

My question is why were harpsichords tuned lower I noticed that when he played C it actually sounded like a b and when he removed that piece and slid the keyboard action up, it basically tuned C into an C like what would be on a piano

And when you make it higher pitched it becomes like a modern piano

Lurch brought me here. 😅 Beautiful instrument!

The builder can do the same trick to the left in order to play 1/2 lower . Also it is very difficult to tune harpsichords in 440. Rather 432 or 435 .
Sounds fantastic !!
