Or you can measure out 12” from anywhere on the angle and measure up to the top and that will give you your pitch as well.

Torpedo level is probably easier to find plumb...but you literally have a 2x next to this to reference lol

Or, just use your ankle's muscle memory while walking the roof. Anything less steep than 7/12, I ain't on it to begin with lol

Any plumb bob will work - even a nut or washer on a string... as will anything with protractor markings - it doesn't need to be a speed square - you may need to convert from angle to pitch though

I bought a pitch finder for $6 it works pretty well

Another quick and easy method. I usually have both those tools on my belt

Or just use a sliding bevel and put a protractor to it...far easier.

So in this case we have a truss it also has a web member that runs perfectly level and you don't need to snap line you just push your speed square up against the web member and it will tell you the degrees and you can change the degrees to inches per foot
