Great video. I use false color for all my interview setups, and try to build in contrast to all my interview setups. Great video.

I love this video. The best video and practical usage of false color I’ve ever watched!

Happy that I found your channel. You're talking about all the things I intuitively did kind of right in the past, but having someone explain HOW it works is an eye opener!

great video - its one thing to know by gut what works and what doesnt work, its a different level to be able to break down and clearly communicate WHY something does/doesn't work. Clearly communicated analytical process. Definitely some 'a-ha' moments in this. Thank you! :D

The "color contrast" bit cracked me up, good job sit! Also the whole video was spot on, breath info.

Really great tip. Learning a lot from you as a heavy c70 user.

shooting into a corner really helps too, besides the window, compared to the first set up. problem is when the window totally burns out, or the sun hits right into it / goes in and out, on long interviews . Nice to have them, but without any control over them, it can be a total liability too.

Thanks for showing this technique, I’m excited to apply it on my next talking head gig! I appreciate the way you visually show as well as make the video audio-only-friendly, and keeping the pace of the video really balanced. You’re one of my favorite creators on YouTube!

Woah, this really leveled up my perspective and encouraged me to use my monitor more when shooting since my camera lacks the feature. Earned a sub and much respect, thanks!

Great video, as always!

I’ve always struggled with the “stock” false color ranges. After years of frustration, I bought a SmallHD 702 touch, which allows you to customize the false color ranges and colors.

Since then, I’ve eliminated the greys that are normally scattered around, and instead go from a dark brown (log IRE of 28) to a progressively lighter pink (log IRE of 55) with 18% middle-grey as the classic ‘green’ still in between 39-40 IRE.

This allows me to see the entire gradient of skin tones, represented in false color, by ratios.

Now, it’s just a matter of determining my contrast ratio. For example, brown to pink is a 16:1 ratio, and dark brown to light pink is 32:1 (super moody).

This has been a game changer for my workflow.

I REALLY need to start using my false color settings on my C70. I'm just too used to using zebras when I shot in miniDV and a light meter when I shot in super 16mm. I love you thought process for lighting an interview. SUBBED!!! you rock brother.

You make some great points about using False Color to evaluate the tonal range, rather than just settling for "correct exposure". I do strive for a wide range of tonal range on my shots (when appropriate), and False Color is a handy tool for that.

Great value video! Love the real life examples and comments on what went wall and what didn't. The last example really showed how the position of camera, lighting and contrast help.

The part where you turn the frame around and the window was behind a woman making the natural highlight is mind blowing. Amazing video.

Really awesome video Dude! I'm going to be looking for this in my shoots moving forward. The example with Rachel at the end was especially good. Thank you so much.
