I love how specific these videos are! There are loads of channels out there that just kind of spew general platitudes about design, but I learn really useful details on these. Thanks!

Thanks. So much. The contractor wanted me to tell him the lighting plan. He has me pointed and explaining, and I don’t really know. I like how you have it sketched. That’s brilliant!

Thank you Liz, I am self fitting my kitchen of which I designed. Two weeks ago I made my island support frame and then fitted my island cabinets to it. I allowed 42"/106cm; however, I had forgotten to include the built in laundry room wall with door which is like an alxove. This reduced the walkway/passing space to 24."

Yesterday, I unfitted the island (which was bolted to the floor) and added an additional 10" and now the clearance is amazing. No elbows banging on the cabinet and the wall. Space is now 126cm/49" which allows for the laundry cupboard.

Thank you for making me think about this.

My lighting I fitted at the start of my project and it is just right; howrver, my area is open plan and so the kitchen lighrs will become more central to the island.

Thank you for this video. I was going to use downlights as my main lighting. Plus more light the better. Now I am rethinking. Possibly rewatch your video to take all the advice in. I do like the sunlight and will see if I can use some. 😊

Thank you Liz! I'm going through your videos and they are super helpful for my kitchen remodel! I have a question I'm hoping you can answer regarding light - specifically around pendant lighting on an island. I'm going to have my range on my island (open concept) and therefore there will be an isolated rangehood hanging. I plan for my island to be 4 feet in depth with some seating and the living room across from it. How should I plan for pendant lighting with the range hood there as well? Thanks!

New to this channel and I really like how she tells you how it is like she's just talking to you not to a camera like an actor

Thanks for the video. We live in a condo/apartment with concrete ceilings, walls and floors so installing light ceiling is not an option. Track lighting is the way we want to go. We had no say in the kitchen cupboards and island and it’s a dark grey which saps all the light out of the room. But we really don’t know where to put the lights. Do you have a video on track lighting and where to place the lights?

Great videos as always! What angle do you recommend for the recess light wafers in the kitchen? Narrow? 60?

Excellent info, as always!
We are building soon and have thought about this a lot also. We have come to the consensus together that pendant lighting over the island is just too busy for us after having it for many years.
We really prefer a cleaner look and something we will be happy with for years to come as its our final home.
Having said that, , we are thinking about basically smaller LED recessed lights in place of the pendants with dimmer control to provide 9hopefully) decent lighting.

Do you have any thoughts or advice?

I admittedly have excessive lights in my kitchen, but my workspaces are always lit. Have you read any of Doug Walter’s research on kitchen lighting and how the presence of people at the counter affects foot-candles at the countertop? He recommends putting the cans above the edge of the counter rather than the middle of the path.

This is wonderful advice and incredibly helpful! Do you have recommendations on the "less is more" smaller recessed lights you recommend?
