Thank you for confirming I can do this with a belt sander. I have a small hall and can take it in sections without blowing out my back on those huge sanders from Home Depot 🙂

I mean respect the guy he takes time out of his day to entertain, just because he made 1 mistake doesn’t mean we should wale on him about it. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES!

this is like watching assault and battery against wood product.

I used a belt sander going with the grain for wood and it looks great. All those comments about how long it takes are unwarranted. You can do a floor with a belt sander, not exactly the way he is showing you, but it can be done. I did it starting with small areas and working back. Get compliments on my floors all the time.

I think he is still sanding that room, 10 years later...

Sanding this way will not "ruin your floors" or anything that isn't what the kind of person doing this themselves would expect. If you're not a professional and you're looking for a way to make your floors look better, but not "perfect", this is a cost effective, slow approach way to do it.

Thank you for this informative video. I wanted something for a hand held sander, even if it took forever. Better than over paying some cowboy with an industrial sized machine to destroy my old parquet flooring.

lifting up the back of the sander so that it carves a deep spot into the floor to get rid of that little piece of stain. and you always sand with the grain

Lots of people dissing this guy, but not suggesting or linking to the right way?

He should definitely wear ear defenders, knee pads, and a dust mask though!

I’m doing mine with an orbital dewalt sander. I made the mistake of going against the grain and it looked fine while sanding but didn’t look good when I stained it.

You haters relax. Bottom line: The process has to match the job. There's no "right way" that covers every job. I've done 200 year old hemlock floors with a Makita pro level belt sander. Some hack had used a drum sander and waved it all up, then cupped it like a fiend because he filled the cracks between the boards with filler like it was a 1965 oak floor. Those really old floors don't have subflooring, so I had to carefully remove the mess the "pro floor guy" made without thinning out the relatively soft flooring. "Fast, cheap, high quality...pick two."

Hi a female here, from UK 🇬🇧. I want to sand the old floorboards in my small bathroom. A total novice I'm doing it to save money and for the experience. I was advised to fill the gaps between floorboards with thin strips of wood. I will use a hand sander. Any recommendations what is a good sander, make etc. From reading the comments, I understand I sand following the direction of the grain line🙂

I don't want to talk smack but the belt sander needs to be connected to a shop vacuum with a correct filter.

This tool is great for edges and steps. Not a whole floor

Good Video A++++.
My ? what type of sand paper # you use with the machine, because I have the same type of wood floor in my house from 1939. If you have to use diferent types of sand paper in the process to coorect any problem. Thanks for all the tips and good information you teach in all the videos.
