I often get asked if a piece needs to be sanded down to bare wood before painting. The answer is NO. Here's a quick tip on how to sand your previously painted furniture and get it ready for a new finish.

You must have been reading my mind. I recently purchased 2 pieces of previously painted furniture for $7.00 each. I completely stripped and sanded one piece and swore I would never buy a previously painted piece again. It was so much work. This is a wardrobe that is hand made with wood that has slats. I am not sure what type of paint was used but some of it I could just peel off with my hands, it wasn’t chipping off but peeling. The inside of the cabinet was not painted but both sides of the panel doors were, and the whole inside of the drawers were also. I was able to get most of the paint off the sides of the drawers but due to the unevenness of the wood there are specs of paint stock in the wood. I do not plan to paint the inside of the doors or drawer. I will put contact paper in the bottom of the drawer.
I now have a better plan for the next painted piece. Thanks for the tip.
