We often get asked how to sand reclaimed wood without losing the character of the century old salvaged wood. This video explains how we work with reclaimed wood to get it prepped for building. After all you don't want to sand away the beautiful patina that took over 100 years to create.

Thank you for great tips. Found your channel today and I'm hooked.

I'm using an oscillating tool currently and I've gone through a ton of paper, and time to restore wood.... lol.

Then I found a carbide rasp attachment for it... wow. I use the rasp (a cheap harbor freight rasp btw) on my oscillating tool and go at the wood like a beast. I can use that then go straight to 220 paper. Its saved me a ton of time and effort in my work.
I only have use of one arm so anything to make up for that disability is great.

Great tips! I have a fantastic piece of wood that was salvaged from a local barn over 160 years old! The texture is fantastic and I was researching ways to sand it, to take out the splinters and not lose the characteristics and roughness, which is what makes it so cool! So, I have to ask... at 1:30... "and if you're lucky, we'll share our "super secret" sanding method... " C'mon guys... fess up! :)

So glad you have a
YouTube channel. Just got some wood from an old gold mine, and had no clue how to clean it up. Thank you!

Thank you for this video... I just bought an old church pew for my dining room... it's in pretty rough shape and I can't wait to clean it up

So the trick is to... sand? NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT.

Thank God someone uploaded this to Youtube. I now realise why simply standing and staring at the boards really intensely did not leave me with finished boards.

Just want to give you a subscribe for mentioning something about the wood splinter. Funny, about a day ago I was sanding pallet wood and when I removed the sanding pad, I wondered why there are black spots stuck on it. You have answered it randomly on the money. Thank you.

We just paid 600 for 120sqft and it came with really rough wood so I guess I gotta do this 🥴

WE found a piece of wood that was about 60-80 years old in the bard, very dried out, is it salvageable?
