In just several hours every day YOU too can fight a losing battle against aphids with tape!

I need a volunteer to wrap me in tape, I will then run up to my lemon tree and other hundred or so plants then throw myself onto the foilage. I shall be known as Apid Man, no Tape Man, Sir will be available for hire, I forsee a franchise.

This is a lot of work, and it won't address issues with eggs. Use insecticide sprays made with water and Ivory soap, or use Neem oil (mix with water and a small amount of dish soap). Both are safe for humans and to use on edible plants, but kills aphids and prevents re-infestation. Treat daily for 1 week, then weekly after that. A cotton swab soaked with Neem oil and then gently applied to the stems and new growth keeps aphids from migrating and laying eggs. Treat the soil as well. Neem oil spray or dish soap with sulfates works well.
Wash all fruit or herbs thoroughly before use. Neem oil can be absorbed by plants which is beneficial for the plant to deter pests, but this may affect the flavor of herbs. Soap is not absorbed by plants.
If you have time to do so, and it is above freezing point, take the plants outdoors and spray them with a strong mist either from a garden hose or a spray bottle to wash the aphids off. Take them to the bath tub to wash them if it is below 34° F. Don't leave your wet plants outside in cold weather for longer than an hour.

That is a great idea, would have never thought of that! It gets rid of the problem instantly too, no waiting for the sprays to kill them.

Wow... I could have used that a month ago when my sprays seemed to do just as much harm as the aphids did! In all seriousness though, thanks for the easy, safe, and cheap trick!

I've been doing this for more than a year. I use the blue painters tape because I think it's gentler to the leaf. But more come the next day. This time of year, May, as it gets warmer in my basement I seem to need to do it twice a day! I have simply made it part of my daily routine .The cost of being a gardener, I guess. My local organic garden store advised against neem oil saying it is too harsh . I use insecticidal soap also, diluted as per instructions, . I have also tried the vaseline-type jelly (plant based) on saran wrap on the stems. That was a total failure. They attack mostly my beautiful kale, both in soil and hydroponic solutions. I have not yet lost a single plant because I keep on it, but it can be a pain....

Oh my God thank you for this. I've been growing one blade of grass and I couldn't figure out how to get the aphids off of it.
Now I'm sure to win best grass blade at the state fair this year after completely wiping out all the competition.
🏆💰
Been doing liquid seven and straight water and sometimes they both work.
But kablooey they keep coming back like I'm into repeat plant bugs or something.
I'll try it only my pepper plants seem to be attracting them, them and my basil 🤷
Can't wait for Spring so I can plant them

This could be useful for getting the mealy bugs on my succulent plants...not quite as much for the cacti! Cheers, from England xxx

Huh... I never thought of using tape before! That's pretty simple and smart. Thanks for sharing. I brought some mint inside last year and it was swarming with aphids. I eventually gave up and threw the whole plant back outside into the cold winter night. :/

Trying to understand why you wouldn't use neem oil indoors. I've used it. Since it is derived from the neem tree and has even been used in toothpaste and cosmetic products I believe it's been thoroughly tested. Conversely, they've even used it in dog shampoos so not sure where the info about being unsafe for animals is coming from. Did I miss a new article about it? Just curious 'cause I've recommended it to people for years. Every article I've seen says it is an excellent organic indoor insecticide.

Got an indoor hydroponics tote that I’m learning some stuff on and just discovered a load of aphids on 5 kale plants. I’m going to try this and see if I can’t save them.

The sun burns the leaves on plants sprayed with the dish soap mixture. Learned that the hard way.

Hi, I have baby succulents that are way too small and fragile for fingers (I use a q-tip when I get water droplets on the leaves so they don't get sick after being watered) so how would you advise I deal with aphids in this case?

Will give this a try, I've been showering my baby jalapeño plants and the number of aphids has reduced, but there's still some

I have been doing this with a lint roller once or twice a day for about 10 days and I’m losing the battle. Any other suggestions before I throw this bean plant out?
