The Parade of Steam at The Cass Scenic Railway is a Must See Event! 2024

Welcome to Cass, West Virginia and home of the Cass Scenic Railroad, the only place around that you can witness the Parade of Steam.

This place has been a bucket list item of mine ever since I learned about it and not only situated in the beautiful mountains of WV, but it's also home to the largest collection of Shay locomotives around.

On this particular day, CSR will put on a show like never seen before. We're going to witness not one, not two or three, but FIVE Shay Steam locomotives in action as they lash up and put on a show for the thousands in attendance.
Make sure to check out @mattPG78 & @PANortheasternRailfan for their take on this event.
Now sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Awesome place! They also have an indoor model railroad in the building behind the station. It is pretty impressive.

I could listen and see this parade every day.

it’s pretty historic having 5 running Shay engines all fired up and running at any one time.

Absolutely amazing to see those steam locomotives, I never seen shay locomotives before. Those whistles are very unique, I love the way they sound. Much different I think then other steam locomotives. Another excellent video JP.

That old Cadillac is amazing, I never seen that done before. Amazing to see that

Love listening to the rods and pistons clicky-clack. Odd way to build an engine I think. What an experience Jason. I remember the show.

I remember Car 54. That’s a beauty!! Puts a whole new meaning to railroad car lol!!🤣🤣. Thanks for the show. Also noticed each each engine seemed to have a different sound. Guessing this tells you which one is coming in or maybe I got wax in my ears and made it sound different. Close up shot the first one looked like it was fixing to come off the screen into my house

This was so awesome! I got goosebumps from the whistles. You can feel, see, and hear the power with these old steam engines much more than today's diesel engines. That's why I love them so much. Oh and there's nothing like an old steam whistle. The caddy was ultra cool. Thanks for taking us along. This is my favorite train video of yours.

Wow! Simply Wow! All 5 whistles blowing together...loved it. I also got a kick out of the short bit you showed of the Steam going backwards, made me smile. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Incredible video!! This is definitely one of, if not the biggest steam events on the east coast; super cool that you were able to make it down to catch it! Was nice to catch up with you as well that day, and thanks for the shoutout!

Enjoyed your video. I was fortunate to have ridden the first trip from Cass to Whitaker Station in May, 1968. At that time, I was a member of the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society and we sponsored an excursion from Huntington, WV to Elkins. It was quite a trip that cannot be repeated. The Chesapeake & Ohio abandoned the line along the Greenbrier River from their main line near White Sulphur Spings to Cass many years ago. It is now a rail to trail.

Awesome video. The off center shape wasn't noticeable until you showed it straight on from the front. That's cool. The whistles were great to hear. Glad you took us along to this event.

Now I know where the lyric "I hear that lonesome whistle sound..." comes from
