I have been told that as we grow older we become more sentimental. I watched the first two episodes of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

It was not what I expected. It looked like your typical ‘Off to defeat the Demon King’ cookie-cutter anime.

It explores memory, death, being left behind and the need to make meaning from our lives and those around us.

Maybe I’m just getting old but every episode so far has made me cry.

It's a very wonderful story and has amazingly brought tears to my eyes on a few occasions as I find myself retracing the steps I once took in my younger years as I now reach the years of winter. If I can offer any advice to those still in the summer of their life, make every second count as it goes, and the people you care about go, much faster than we can ever expect when young.
