Frieren has stated that she's been bested in combat 11 times, 6 of which were human. She's not invincible, while she would def defeat Fern 9 times out of 10, Ferns victory by chance isn't entirely out of the books.

And one more thing only if frieren is busy fighting someone and she casts a spell that's the only time where fern can surprise attack frieren so fern only has 1 second of attack time that means if she messes up she dies
