The Best Cold-Brewed Coffee

Cold-brewing creates a very smooth coffee that is not at all bitter. The coffee is delicious hot or cold. My formula is 1 1/2 cups (80 grams) coarsely-ground coffee to 6 cups of cold water. Steep 12-24 hours. Enjoy!

Dearest, Kevin: Every conceivable method of coffee making have I tried, and no less the undeterred coffee fiend remain.
In taste, the cold brew, low in acidity, inoffensive possesses several facets, -almost layers actually interesting. In body, however I've found the cup to be light, thin even. Yet, unquestionable is its ease of preparation.
Espresso and pour-over are my preferred methods obtaining coffee black. While, both will yield an incredibly rich, full-bodied and strong cup even so, and in despite of the manual steps involved the pour-over method does make for an astoundingly deep &, velvet-smooth palate.
Since, without coffee a fiend cannot & will not live, depth & richness are key aspects that convince of the process required.
Coffee, first of the day must be pretty near perfect. Although, in method(s) admittedly laborious the result is well worth the trouble. -And, frankly so am I.
Good Morning, -however you choose to brew. / Health, always. // D.C

That is a funny story about the dangers of undiluted coffee (4:15). I did something similar years ago with Barry's Irish Breakfast Tea. (Barry's is one of the most popular teas in Ireland. It's a very strong tea that's made from Assam and brews up black and strong like coffee.) One day I experimented by making a pitcher of iced tea, using Barry's Irish Breakfast. Big mistake. I was bouncing off the walls for two or three days, higher than a kite on this tea. That's never happened to me before. For more than 40 years I've drank about a whole pot of black coffee each day by myself with no problems or no jitters. But Barry's Tea was my Waterloo. It kicked my butt. 😂

Lol!! I loved your story about how you ended up polishing the entry floor! 😂 I’m not a cold coffee drinker but I might try this and heat mine up! Thank you, Kevin! 💕

Hello Kevin, I really enjoy watching your videos, thank you so much for your time and for inviting us to your beautiful home and gardens. Makes me smile when I see you smiling 😊.

As to the iced coffee, I see Americans putting huge ice cubes in their coffee and I wonder why you would add more "water" just to cool it. Here in Germany we use vanilla ice cream instead. a good helping of ice cream in a high glass, pour cold coffee over it, top it with whipped cream if you like and you're good to go. Personally, I don't drink coffee - I use cold (homemade) chocolate milk instead. Sooo yummy 😋

I'm looking forward to many more videos on your channel, best wishes for you and your loved ones (two- and four-legged), Servus from the Bavarian Alpine region 🙋🏻‍♀ Lisa

Thank you, Mr. Kevin, for this fine recipe. I've never, ever known how to make cold-brew coffee until I watched your video. I appreciate the lesson and will try it this weekend. Love hanging out with you, especially in the kitchen and the gardens. Cheers! 😊💖🙏

I go back and forth between cold and hot but I always heated the cold coffee first. I'll do it your way! Make sense. And I'll dilute it to 7cups first try. I'll also use distilled water. Our tap is so full of flouride and chlorine.

Yay! I hadn't seen this one and am so happy to know how to make it now. There was a local brand everyone uses in New Orleans, but since I have moved to Seattle, I couldn't find anything like it. Which is weird, as I think coffee is the official drink of Seattle! There's a shop on every corner, and I don't think I've had a bad cup since we moved here. (Slightly makes up for missing crawfish and gulf oysters... And French bread, and king cake, and poor boys, and Doberge cake, and gumbo, and... and...)

Kevin, thanks for the tip about dilution. I usually just put my pot-brewed coffee in the fridge and drink it undiluted. I'll keep it in mind when I try cold brew (so my wife doesn't have to break out the defribulator).

MY MAN KEVIN with the heavy whipping cream in his coffee! Once you've crossed the Rubicon of HWC, everything else is just...disappointing. I knew you wouldn't let me down 😁

Great video, KLJ - thanks for the upload.

Thank You so very much for the cold brew recipe. I LOVE IT! I even tried the Fair Trade Peruvian whole bean coffee and ground the beans myself ! FUN.

I just recently discovered Blue Bottle Coffee, when I was shopping in Studio City. So, I bought a small bag of the decaf, after trying their sample. It's surprisingly good.
I'm thinking it should make a good version of your cold brew. Thank you for the recipe.

Wow, this is something I could actually make!! Not too complicated, and sounds delicious and pure. Love the roses too, BTW. Have a great day Kevin 😀

I am interested in trying this, particularly for iced coffee. Sorry to contradict you but the coarse grind actually affords much LESS surface area. Because the grounds are in contact with the water for a long period of time, a fine grind here would likely produce overly-extracted, bitter coffee. When the grounds stay in contact with the water for a period of time this is referred to as immersion style brewing. As with a French press, courser grinds are always preferred for any type of immersion brewing.

I love both hot and iced coffee. Hot brewed coffee used to upset my stomach until I learned to reduce the acid in it by adding a scant 1/4 tsp of baking soda to the Chemex pot before brewing. Problem solved—and it doesn’t alter the taste! Thanks for another enjoyable video. 😊
