The DIY one really helps to show that we don't really need sophisticated "dedicated" brew kits, and thus save us both $ and space at home.

They used different beans for each setup. I don’t know what they think they’re doing, but they aren’t comparing brewing methods. They’re comparing beans.

For DIY, you don't need the paper filter. After sieving for the first time, let the cold brew solution stay still for 1 - 2 hours (don't stir), and then slowly pour to another container. You will have the fine coffee particles sunk at the bottom and just discard it.

You should have kept the beans the same. That would have been a proper experiment to compare methods

I use a big ass French press. Put grinds in press, add water. Let sit over night. Push down on press, add coffee to glass, enjoy.

I have an old, glass V8 bottle.
I put coffee and water in the bottle, shake it up, and leave it on the counter overnight. The next morning I use a Milita pour over to filter and put the coffee into another glass bottle.
It's cheap and easy.

Superb b video and a good line up of brewers. Why not try to brew the same coffee in all the brewers and see if there's any difference?

Good video!

30 years ago, my mom had the Toddy Brew system and that's how I learned to love cold brew! Currently, I'll put some coarse ground coffee in a mason jar, add water and let sit overnight. Note: I'll stir a couple times during the day. Next day just be careful when pouring and you really don't even need a filter if you have a steady hand. Done.

I love cold brew coffee since it takes most of the flavor of the beans better. I use a 1:4 ratio with a finer grind size for the beans and brew for 48hrs in the fridge. The result is a strong concentrate that I love drinking black and diluted.

I have two of the 1L mizudashi and it’s absolutely my favorite. My family is a bunch of coffee drinkers and it when one is brewing, the other is being used to make drinks through out the day and when that one is empty, then the next one should be done brewing

My personal secret to cold brew isn’t the brew system. It’s the drinking container. I drink mine in an insulated rambler with a large single ice cube so my coffee doesn’t get diluted andI can sip it almost all day. I love your channel!

I use a jam jar, and use our local liberica coffee (dark roast with sugar and butter). Sometimes in filter bag (like the goat) but usually just the grounds and the filter with coffee sock. Drink it with cold milk. For a hot and humid tropical country, this is so refreshing.

I think water plays the most important part as the end product will contains more than 90% water. water quality may vary in every place, but to be sure try to find soft-type water source to be use as brewing water. as I do big batches of cold brew coffee every week, I found that soft water type enhanced the stability of the product longer than if you brewing using hard water.

Excellent video! Thank you for posting. I've been cold-brewing for about ten years, using the Toddy system. The thing I love about brewing coffee this way (cold brewing using any device) is that it makes even the cheapest coffee grounds fairly drinkable. Anyway, I'd like to get other's opinions on something: It appears to me that we have some confusion about the name "cold brew". I've always stated that "cold brew" refers to the METHOD, as in "brewing coffee without having to use heat". I know that's true. But it appears that many people think I'm talking about drinking cold coffee, or iced coffee. That is NOT true. I then have to say something about cold brew doesn't mean cold coffee. I can drink it hot or cold, and usually, for me, it's hot. "Cold brew" is referring to the way I've brewed the coffee. Even media, coffee companies, and grocery stores seem to think that drinking "cold brew" means drinking cold coffee. Are they really interchangable and I'm just being picky? What's your opinion...anyone?

Great video. I like the way you showed different price ranges. My Great Aunt & Uncle used the Tody brand for years before cold brew was a thing. The concentrate that it makes is less acidic and easier on your stomach. They would add hot water to it for a hot cup of coffee in the morning. 😉

For me this would have been more valuable if the same coffee beans and same ratios had been used on the 5 methods. Different recipes really didn't answer the question of which method gives the best results.

I use a pound of grinds with a half gallon of water, and refrigerate for three or four days, stirring several times a day. Then filter in the fridge with a cone filter. Freeze the concentrate in ice cube trays and store in ziplock bags. I put a cube in a cup and fill with hot water for great tasting coffee.

Great explanation on the methods. I use my french press for cold brew, it just takes forever.

Using a cafetiere (french press) is a good alternative. For my personal taste I brew 60g of coffee to 500ml gives a nice strong tasting brew with plenty of flavour. Recently a Brazilian bean from Mogiana Region by Cuppers Choice. Add coffee and water to the cafetiere, give a stir and leave in the fridge for 12-14 hours. Press down the plunger and then I filter again through a V60 to make sure the brew is especially smooth.

I have a big Mizudashi and use 80 grams Moyee Ethiopian. Keep it for 24 hours in the fridge and then take the filter out. Nice fruity taste with some mocca tones.
