I think instead people being encouraged to find their passion in life, they should be encouraged to find their purpose in life. And then find the best job that will allow them to flourish in their purpose. Over time the purpose becomes a passion.

I majored in Fine Art. I didn't know what I really wanted to do but I knew I liked art so I went for that. I knew it wasn't going to be a money earner, so I cut the idea of an expensive art school right away. I went to community college and don't regret for a second what I learned there. The biggest thing about art is they don't tell you how much of it is going to be marketing yourself. That's more important than the art itself.

But now I do want to go back to school to get a degree in something more substantial. At least now I'm older and more mature and have some idea of where I want to go.

This video is so underrated. This should've reached to hundred thousand views. I would probably recommend the channel itself to my friends because seriously though this helps me a lot in decision making and about to set my mind towards a better path.

Love the video! So often people will either say to find a job that pays well or to find a job you're passionate about, while few actually acknowledge that there's usually a middle ground and that different people have different hopes and goals for their lives.

Two personal insights:
- Sometimes passion can be a fickle thing; you don't always get to "find" your passion, you have to build it. Don't immediately give up on an option because you don't feel passionate about it right away.
- If you have a few careers you're deciding between, choose the road that has more options. Unless you are certain that a specific job is what you want to do for the rest of your life, try to get into a career path that you can move around in so you don't get stuck in a job you don't like that you can never deviate from.

I'm getting a B.S. in Geography to be a land surveyor and GIS technician, but I'm also getting a degree in Spanish because I love speaking Spanish andlearning about languages on the side. You could get a degree that will get you a job that pays the bills and do your passion as a side hustle. That's what I'm doing. I'm trying to do Spanish trsnslation on the side because I like it. No one says you have to do one thing, and that's it. And heck, maybe down the road, your passion might make you good money. Just don't get yourself into debt, only to work minimum wage, and not be able to have freedom.

I think high school teachers should point their student to your channel. Seriously, there is so much useful information here. I’m a 35 year old engineer and I still watch your videos.

I went and got a certified medical assistant diploma, wanted to become a trauma nurse but health issues would not allow it. I think you need to make sure your physically capable and have the mental cognition to do the job. Hate to see someone go through 4 years of schooling just to realize they can't physically or mentally do the job. See a lot of people enter fields that are too stressful and fail miserably.

Hey, I just wanted to genuinely say thank you for making these videos. They’ve helped a lot and really opened my eyes to just how much thought and planning I need to put into my future career(s). I know you probably get a lot of hate comments for making videos with such opinionated viewpoints, but I just hope you realise that all the people that take away important lessons and really appreciate your videos far outweigh the others that criticise. Welp...jeez what was supposed to be a simple thank you comment turned into a short essay...whoops. So, yea thank you a lot for all the content and effort you put into these videos. I hope your YouTube channel really grows into something special.

When figuring out what salary is good enough you also should take COL into account. 70k is great in most places, but high paying jobs are more common in high COL areas, so 70k may not really be enough in those areas. It may be enough for one person, but if you know that a family depends on you, then it may not be enough :/

But otherwise, thank you for sharing this balanced approach. It’s important more people understand that we need to be more balanced with our decisions.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do right out of high school. I went to college for chemistry, as I loved chemistry in high school. I did a couple of years, and found it wasn't my passion. So I quit, got a job in the oil patch, made good money, but it wasn't for me long term. This was in the early 80's. Then, I got my break, a community college hosted a programming class in our little town, and I found my passion, and something I could make a living at. Thanks to Ali Nemat - the teacher that gave me encouragement.!! To make a long story short, I went to work for a pipeline company, did quite a few different field positions, then took a job as a controller operating the lines, from there moved into control systems, and now install new control system software at a high salary! So, I kind of did what you describe, but the hard way! I never earned a degree, but took all the technical classes that I could that I found interesting. Now, at 63, I just finished a class on energy through the University of Illinois that I'll put to use somehow! Thanks for the great content.

So it seems that this is a three step process:
1. Find your passion.
2. Find your talent.
3. Find what is available.

High school straight into military wasn’t my best decision. Now I’m lost in the real world 5 years later

Best piece of advice for people with useless degrees: supplement your degree with technical skills.

Realistically, I believe any major can be a good choice IF you don't pay an arm and a leg for it with student debt. Some can major in literature or liberal arts and pursue their passion without the need for a super high paying job granted that they don't have to spend a lifetime paying off mortgage level debt simply from College.
