Love the video title “manage your expectation”. That should be included in most AAA titles on launch if they were being realistic.

I still think the problem in performance with current gen games comes down to devs and their willingness to delay titles to optimize them. With the Star wars jedi patch coming out this week the game is hitting a solid 30 fps with ray tracing with good image quality. The performance mode dropped the ray tracing support and improved the performance to a solid 60fps with improved image quality.

So we are reaching that glorious point where 4k upscaling tech just isn't doing it anymore to cover up how heavier games have gotten.
And our current "next" gen consoles are well, consoles. They play games at a quality fitting its price, better then that but not much.

Fact that 60fps is target of upgraded systems is a disappointing state of affairs.

I want optimised games, not rushed crap with upscaling band aids.

I'm not expecting performance to improve that much, if anything at all, on consoles. If it just improved image quality a bit (thing like less blurred games, a bit better antialiasing...) and caused less image artifacts I'd consider it well worth it for what's basically a free update we didn't expect at all when the consoles launched.

I would be more than happy if we get consistent 4K 60FPS on consoles, whilst allowing the games to look as good as Demon's souls remake.

I dont really care much about huge fps upgrades, if FSR 3.0 has much less visual artifacts than FSR 2.1 (Take Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield for example... at least on console) then that alone is a huge win

As long as we get games running at 60fps smooth thats what matters to me

These consoles, minus the S, should be able to natively render most games at 2560x1440 at 60 fps with competent image quality and no ray tracing. Devs need to spend more time on optimizing their games.

Jedi Survivor is the clean proof developers want to push ray-tyraced shenanigans everywhere and use upscaling techniques to make up for it. Yesterday's patch proved it.

Just remove it till the technology gets good enough. If ray-tracing provided good performance (something 40-50ish FPS), then it would justify FSR to bump it to stable 60.

I would something like a variable image reconstruction . Basically 60 fps games that dont quite reach the target have the reconstruction technique only to fill the gaps

What I'm wondering about isn't using FSR to go from 30 to 60, but instead using it to take these recent games that drop to the mid to high 40s and get them to a stable 60 with potentially the input delay of a 40hz mode

Immortals of Aveum is a good example of a game that would work “well” with FSR3. It hits the 60fps target, but FSR2.1 ultra performance mode (720p to 4K) makes the resulting image awful. FSR3 could take it up to 900p or possibly 1080p base resolution and achieve the same frame rate, with about 15ms more input latency which would be palatable.

It's too early for the new consoles to be struggling - they are 3 years old but closer to 1-2 years in terms of new games. Granted, developers now have to offer a graphics and performance mode (and maybe offer a 40hz mode for 120hz displays) with emphasis on the performance side since most folks will choose that.

Looks like 30 fps will be the standard for now on current gen, or 40FPS/120hz if possible
