Phase 1 of the NASM Optimum Performance Training model focuses on optimizing neuromuscular efficiency, which in laymen's terms means improving the communication and coordination of the neurological and muscular systems. This means drastically slowing down training tempos to allow for neurological and external feedback from coaches with a strong emphasis on form and technique.

This stage is often misunderstood as focusing only on balance training and core, but the right approach towards stabilization training with the full spectrum of compound movements can set clients and athletes up for amazing (injury free) results down the road.

That study is interest how it shows that simply working on technique resulted in very good gains, but with much les likelihood of injury. This is similar to what I do with my running coaching.
