The HO 450 is an animal. Good thing for traction control because the truck would doing donuts everytime you punch it.

I've drove them both back to back on the same road on a ten mile test. Ford ho powerstroke got 20mpg and chevy got 18. Both were quiet. Chevy rode better but ford had better seats. Both had great power, but you could tell the ford had more.

I’ll wait on the HO as ford takes a few years to work out the issues.

Do you have the Ford in 4WD? TFL said they notice a lot of reduced power if it’s in 4WD seemingly to protect the front diff and transfer case. Do acceleration runs in 2WD.

Put the Chevy in tow/haul mode so it starts in first gear instead of second for a better launch.

Exhaust brake on the 450 works so much better than the 22s!! Still not as good as the ram but an improvement.

Nice video. You’re really going to get a lot of hate from this I think lol.

This just shows that peak numbers don’t really mean anything. I’ve been saying that for years when talking about these diesels. Ram started it with the HO Cummins option that literally only makes that peak number for a very narrow range in the power band. Judging by your now two test it would appear Ford has inflated their peak numbers much in the same way. Lighter weight truck (which like I say at these kinds of weights 200-300 pounds is laughable if you think that makes a difference) shorter rear gearing (probably very similar though with the difference in tire sizes) and more power lol. So what excuse is left from the Ford guys? Oh it’s torque management now from some of the comments. Well they all say Ford made this “Allison 10 speed” and that the 10R140 is actually stronger so why have the torque management?

3.42 gearing in chev vs 3.55 in ford? Too close to matter?

The updated Duramax is very impressive, and is plenty capable enough. GM focused on the important areas such as low-end power delivery, and these tests definitely showcases that. The H.O Powerstroke may have more peak power & torque, but the Duramax has more efficient & usable power. Overall, It plus the Allison is a very solid powertrain combination and would be my pick for sure!

Just go watch tfl they just did a Ford versus Chevy comparison up the ike gauntlet. Spoiler alert ford did the best. They also drag raced chevy vs ford and ford won by a bunch. Sorry JB.

It’s Allison branded.
Not manufactured by Allison.
Stop saying “it’s an Allison, ” it just makes you look like you don’t know your stuff.

It’s a good day when you can drive these two beasts back to back for a video.

I'm surprised at the numbers for the F350. My Lariat that is not a Tremor gets 20mpg at 70mph. I have the FX4 package and the tire diameter on tire rack is 34.1" so it's not far off the Tremor's tire at 35". I think the big MPG killers for the Tremor are the suspension lift and the lack of an air dam in the front.

Ford sucks, the only plus side to owning a ford is comfortable seats. But thats because Ford wants you to be comfortable while you wait for a chevy tow truck.
