El Salvador blocks gang members from leaving entire region

El Salvador’s police and soldiers have fenced off an entire region in a clampdown on ruthless gang activity.

Over 7,000 soldiers and 1,000 police officers have established a security fence around the entire central Cabanas department with the aim of blocking gang members from leaving, thereby disrupting supply chains.

President Nayib Bukele wrote on Twitter that Cabanas had “become the place with the largest number of terrorist cells”, where gang members were concealing themselves in the countryside.

Our current Salvadorian government cares for our safety, and security. I am so happy that i can go everywhere at all hours and not worry for my safety. 3 years ago I couldn't go to visit family members a few blocks away. It was too dangerous, area was under gangs control. Now even members of our congress are going to jail for corruption. First time that these corrupted politicians are facing justice. I feel for the first time i am a citizen of a great country respecting and working for the people.

I had a co worker when I was in security who was a police officer in El Salvador in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. The stories he told me and the men he lost in service was ridiculous. He made it out to America with his family and is a security guard now. This was 2010. A lot has changed and seems for the better.

Love Bukele and so do all the people who are still alive thanks to him. Also, he is giving his people a future. He is making areas safe again so business can thrive including from tourism. Our leaders don't want us to think we can change things for the better in the West. They want us to live in fear and to struggle and spend our time watching sport/dramas, watching/reading fake news and thinking we have no power. We have all the power and we need leaders who publicise that, not hide it.
