El Salvador president promises crackdown on gangs in rural areas

Thousands of soldiers and armed police have been deployed in a rural area of El Salvador - where the country's president has promised to ramp up his crackdown on criminal street gangs.

Nayib Bukele said the Cabanias area had become the top hiding place for gang members - declaring the patrols would continue until all of them had been found.

Im salvadorian born and raised but now live in the US but i visit every couple of years and this year has been the safest i have seen El Salvador by far. I didn’t even think it was possible, i never saw a safe El Salvador until now and im glad the new generation of salvadoran youth is able to experience it and hopefully keep it that way
