Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Burgos ended in "carnage" as riders were sent flying following a crash over a downhill section into the finish. Jumbo-Visma's David Dekker was the first to fall over a speed bump and that led to a pile-up in the peloton.

We bring you some of the biggest sports events in the world, such as Roland-Garros, Australian Open, Giro D’Italia, Tour De France, the World Snooker Championships and the Olympic Games, amongst so many more.

So let me get this straight: In response to Fabio Jakobsen almost dying during what has been marketed as "the fastest sprint in the world", the UCI publishes "Specifications for Organisers" that clearly states: "If a bunch finish is expected, the organiser must take care to avoid obstacles such as road narrowings, traffic islands and speed bumps in the last 20 kilometres. It is essential that there are no such obstacles in the last kilometre".

And yet there is a speed bump in the last km of a downhill finish. Bunch sprint or not, how can the organisers come up with this and why does the UCI accept the route?

Meanwhile, the Tour of Poland - where Jakobsen was lucky to survive his crash, mind you - has one dangerous narrow, turning sprint finish after another. Something clearly has to change here.

I just hope the AG2R guy is alright. He took a terrible fall there.

Whoever picked this route should be arrested. Absolutely criminal

At least all the riders were wearing legal height socks! Whew, glad the UCI is on top of that.

I assume the UCI paid the riders a huge fine and UCI points each? The UCI is always keen to fine riders when they are not according regulations, I assume the same applies when the UCI break the regulations

My subtle notice: look at quickstep rider at the start fighting for position behind jumbo train with a rider in the white on the left.. Quickstep rider then crashes and the other guy doesn't. I know its not funny but jumbo really had effective "sweeper" -.-'

Appreciate it wasn't their fault but raising your arms for that finish is poor sportsmanship in my eyes.

The stupid race director sd be ordered to have insurance

W o suing and through the riders union each crashed rider sd be paid according to the severity of their injuries.

Race director insurance also pays for bike damage and mechanic time

Amateur sport we have

That was a speed hump. I can ride over those with no hands… I don’t get how this crash even happened.
