As a Yakuza member I can say it’s true. They’re cutting off my finger as we speak for disclosing information

It’s not irezumi tho. It’s horimono. It’s easy to mix them up if you don’t know the difference but how it looks is obvious. Irezumi is a tattoo branding of criminals in early Japan usually done as an X or a Dot. Horimono to me is an art style to show who you are and what you believe in forever inked to you. Usually done on the back or whole body avoiding hands neck and face because the Japanese public already views these tattoos as bad because it is so closely associated with the yakuza. It’s an art form turning oneself into a canvas for his or hers beliefs. Only reason I know is because I studied these kinds of tattoos before I got my own back piece so i wasn’t jumping into dangerous waters. There’s a vice news video on it from 3 years ago it’s very helpful in understanding better

They say all the great ones leave their mark, but no one has ever taken it quite literally with so many flamboyant tattoes more than the Yakuza. That could even outshine a rainbow🌈.
The tattooing skills of the Yakuza clan seem to be on a whole 'nother level. On top of that, the practice of voluntarily cutting off part of the baby finger, out of fear of disciplinary repercussions, is truly in a league of its own.

Is yakuza ethnocentric like Sicilian Mafia?

Your social credit score goes way down if you join the Yakuza. Don’t do it.
