L's Speech - 'I Am That Monster' | Death Note L

Actually this speech is just on another level for me, because as an L's quotes lover, I really enjoyed both dub and sub versions. Besides, I think there is nothing more to say about Death Note, about how amazing it is.

All four are lying monsters, and for six years, they've been playing a game that only a lying monster can play.

L has never failed anyone I know watching this anime masterpiece to open our eyes and empty minds. This guy is the real scientist and psychologist of monsters.

You see, L never really cared about anything.
L didn't care about what we consider "justice"; the few times he claimed to defend justice and to fight for it was to convince others (Interpol, Japanese Police, the investigation team, Light and Misa, etc) that he cared about justice when he did not. L didn't care about Light as a friend, he just kept his suspicions about Light all the time, and then tried to manipulate him with his "friendship" and guilt-trip him from ever trying to win the game again. L didn't care about anything in life.
L is deeply nihilistic. "Justice" is nothing to him apart from a funny synonym to "what the most powerful decides". He is "justice" at the beginning of Death Note because he stood unrivaled at the top of the world: the smartest, the deftest, the strongest, the one who would decide. But he knew that if "justice" was just a meaningless word, none of his ideals would have any meaning either. So, L didn't decide anything.
Perhaps the only thing L cares about is winning, in a duel of the minds, to show once again that he alone sits atop of the world. So he plays detective, and finds the criminals and traces every thought that crossed their heads, as if to assert dominance. This comes as repetitive and boring with everyday cases, so he only gets involved if it may actually be an interesting case, a worthy foe, a monster such as him. There are not many of those. While a case appears, L just rots away in boredom, not caring about anything enough to do anything himself, yet pretending to be human when he doesn't know what that is.
