Pioneer DJ often plays it safe when it comes to the look and styling of their products, especially those aimed at the club market. But with the OPUS-QUAD, the company has switched things up with something very daring indeed. This all-in-one device brings four decks to one of their standalone units for the first time and also adds a host of new workflows. Mojaxx brings you his full review on this episode of "Beatsource Tech."

Mojaxx, you're an absolute gem of a human mate. The DJ community is bloody lucky to have you.

We will see this in beach clubs, bars, rooftop terraces and 5 star hotels... Looks stylish and has a good feature set. It will find its own market, no doubt...

I feel like this is more of a high end, in home, art piece. Like you're the DJ that displays this in their living room for guests when they come over.

The only thing I can tell Pioneer is “If it ain’t broke DONT FIX IT” - Mo this is by far the best review and most accurate review I have seen you do, yes a few updates could fix a few things but DEF the design is a miss, not a big one but def a miss for giving the XDJ XZ a proper follow up

Dear Pioneer,

Thank you Denon for doing the research and showing the way by making the Prime 4 3 years ago. I just need to do a little more tweaks and add a few of our legacy. Then price is twice as the controller I emulated. I don’t need to use the “Club Standard” as an excuse anymore. Now let me see if our loyal Pioneerians get suckered into buying this. In the meantime, let me research on how to copy Serato’s and VDJ’s stems technology.

Your truly,
Pioneer

It's a beautiful design for use in high end cocktail lounge and listening room style wine bars or restaurant/club combo venues. As a club/festival DJ and as someone with multiple residencies at the aforementioned locales, I love this for the residency side to my DJ life. I would never expect to see this at a festival or banging nightclub, but that's not what it's for. Presentation can matter a great deal when landing new high end restaurant/rooftop bar gigs in a big city. This ticks that box in more ways than one.

Mojaxx, this is absolutely my favourite video of yours ever. Your sign out, authentic taste review is absolutey beautiful. And nothing like a massive personal conundrum curve ball to show how vulnerable your willing to go! Asthetics vs Performance vs Potential. So good to see how your personal taste was really bringing tested by the top bar performance of this product. Great and thorough review as always and I didn't think it possible, but in my mind you just created a new top level of reviewer award. You are the Michelin 🌟. In my taste of course.

I’ve ordered mine immediately. This thing is spot on and I love the looks. I’ve honestly never looked at the jog-displays on my XZ.

Brilliant review but just to point out that it's not the first time Pioneer have included wifi on a controller. The XDJ aero was their first controller with built in wifi. Thanks for your fantastic and concise review as always. I love the way you go through things and your honest and informed opinions. Thank you again Mojaxx.

If this was a 4-deck XZ-2, it would be unstoppable, regardless of streaming being available. Its a flex of what they are capable of with standalone technology while at the same time missing a load of DJs with the aesthetic. Black knobs, black ribbed sides and it would already be halfway there visually 🤘

First of all, great HONEST review (as always). I'm a long time user of the Prime 4 and, although it's comparable to the P4, I don't think it has enough to convince me to spend over $1k more for it. In my opinion, this is Pioneer's version of the P4 that still falls short when it comes to streaming and zone output.

A OPUS-QUAD vs Prime 4 comparison video would be interesting!

Great review. As someone who plays out in clubs and festivals regularly with standard CDJ-3000 gear, this double-library headache is really the only detractor from going all-in on this for a portable/home solution. Hope Pioneer address this sooner rather than later so it's better integrated with the club standards and less clunky.

I agree with you about the looks. I would be happy with RX4 4 channels standalone with additional function that opus has.

I don't use any Pioneer gear . Was never a fan of the cdj, I use Searto DVS on turntables. I would strongly consider this contoller. I think Pioneer was thinking of me when they made it. I think it was made to pull in those who are not a fan of CDJ's or Pioneer. I think the unit is extremely sexy and really would consider buying it as my first contoller!!! Thank you for the

I think it’s a good step whether you like it or not. And was desperately needed. If you look at the studio world and what hardware and software is available it’s extremely healthy with so many high quality manufacturers pushing the boundaries. I remember the huge back lash when the CDJ1000 first appeared from all vinyl DJs and there beloved Technics which was actually a hifi turntable. Unfortunately Pioneer have dug themselves a big CDJ DJM hole where DJs expect this format. Change is good. Sometimes it does not work initially but when it does it far more exciting.

I’m so happy you mentioned the asymmetrical design with the play/cue buttons being different distances apart from the edge. I was actually thinking in my head how to overcome this and it’s rather simple. But with me being a graphic designer as well, I see things like that too and it bothers me probably more than it should lol.

And to agree with what others have said on here… you are a true blessing to the DJ community. Thank you for the time and energy you devote to the community. I hope you never get tired of it! 😇

Beautiful blend of form and function. Jog wheel loopers are GREAT. I've set up my Xone K2's to manage looping with the toggle nobs so it's a great surprise to now have them on this deck!
COMPLETELY disagree with your aesthetics review and your approach to it. This was my first video to watch from your channel and I just don't understand why you'd open with loads of negative opinions about design. The tonally matched elements are thoughtful and look great. It's good to see some focus on aesthetics other than blinky lights and colors.
Regarding the Cues, the 3000's have several ways to enable the cue's, screen and other buttons to perform the pad functions from the XZ and others. I'm sure that exists on this device too.

What I love the most is the interface, cue buttons and other elements work to transition aspiring DJ's from a home or travel setup with this machine into a full club CDJ 3000 setup. They translate WAY better than the XZ to 3000. In that regard the price is not a problem if you view this as a combined 900 & CDJ3000 x2. I have ONE CDJ 3000 beside my XZ so I can practice on both, using the Zone K2 to control samples and effects on the other side. So this deck will fantastic in that setup and WAY less expensive and clunky than lugging the full 900/3000 x3 or 4 rig. GREAT JOB PIONEER! This is just what a lot of us need!

Yes someone else that see this as the Atari of the dj world. Thanks Mojax.
It’s $4599 in Canada which equates to $5200 after taxes. I’ll go buy 2 prime 4’s for that price

I want that cue system for my 3000s! I mean damn, they put all that power under the hood, and we haven't gotten a single added performance feature since they were released!

I think it looks great and something different. Proper 4 channel setup that appears super easy to use when compared the XZ is brilliant.
I agree with you re the left and right edge shapes and the temp sliders, they may be weird to play with in the dark.
Not having Slip mode seems like something they forgot to add in.
