Well the surge might be quieter, it’s also making noise for a longer period of time.

My favorite thing about the surge is how controllable it is. Feels like consistent power and it's so easy to sink in screws at the right depth. So much quieter, really good on the battery, but the light can be a bit better

Just for those who don't know for every 10 decibels the sound is twice as loud, so the surge is about half as loud

I personally have a surge and a Gen 4 impact. Depending on what I’m doing is what drill I like to use. Inside small tasks like drywall screws I use surge. Larger screws and bolts I use the impact . Surge is less likely to strip screws and the noise reduction is a game changer Forsure.

It was like 8db difference. Get hearing protection and use the strong one

I install countertops so i use the surge. Being in peoples homes really amplifies noise so the quieter tools keep the client quiet too😂

Surge is awesome for stainless fasteners ! I love the M12 for smaller stainless screwed and the M18 for bigger stuff. They don’t strip stainless as much as a normal impact and they don’t break heads off as easily either!

Or if you need something that won't cam out or throw the bit out as much, go with surge. If you need pure power (out of these 2 anyway), go with Fuel. Gen 4, as I got a gen4 to replace my gen3 after warranty and the gen4 fees way more powerful and kicks out my bits somewhat often, my gen3 never kicked out my bits.

The surge also resonates a lot less. Which is very nice for your joints.
And also because the surge is hydraulic the surge needs less maintenance.

I’ve used my surge for maybe 5 years now. I think it has less vibration and a smoother drive compared to the gen 3.

Surge for me all day. I work in refrigeration, and the sound reduction is a game changer. I'm also not changing rusted on wheel lugnuts and shit though.

Honestly the surge was louder for longer while the fuel was quiet for short period and I work around loud noises all day every day so I say go fuel quiet for less

Surge is great for electrical. Less likely to strip out bolts/screws in panels

Love the surge. We need a new one with a better light.

To me the surge spunded louder, plus it takes it longer to sink a screw so its making noise for longer, all take the force and be done making noise sooner

In my experience the surge is significantly quieter when your not wide open. Once your at Max power it's not much quieter.

I just picked up the gen 4 drill and impact combo I don’t have too many uses for it but I started out with just the traditional m18 drill and impact and those things alone are probably enough to do 90% of things I might run into but you should do a test with those to see how much better fuel really is

The surge isn’t for sheet metal roofing (ag panel). The fuel by far take the slice of the cake. Yes the surge works. But it’s dramatically slower in a less set of skilled hands (leads to over/under set 1” 1/2 sheet metal screws)😮
