No reason to remove an EVAP canister. Doesn't affect performance, just prevents you from smelling fumes all the time

Its hard to find that stuff when restorations are done. Everybody tossed it and I would too. A restoration part thats rare as hens teeth, a 1970 Boss 302 smog pump. They all came with them and everyone got rid of them.

Check the air cleaner mode door.
When it doesnt shut cold, it wont warm up right.
That one looks older than 40 years.
Dont feel bad, lots of MFRs had them for TAC type systems.
They might last 15 years or less.

Pull off all the smog and emissions. Two vacuum lines one for the distributor and one for the vacuum modulator on the transmission if it's a automatic.
Pull the timing cover off put a new timing set on it. Set it at zero or advanced 4 degrees.

My 81 with M2 looks almost exactly the same as that 79. It runs great, people stripping things off without understanding how to change the vacuum configuration etc that made them run like crap.

I need to find or make a blower motor box just like that one for my restoration. Mine had the cover screws ovtightened

Starting in 1974 for the Ford F100. Dads vaporlocked in cool or foggy air; it was cool and foggy alot in 74.

It's too bad that emissions systems affected engines so much in the 1970s, but that's what delete kits are for.

Probably because the original owner was happy with what it was or didn't have any balls to take it off and probably took it to the state every year for inspection

Live in California and still need to smog 1975 and up so mine still has all the smog intact

Pretty sure Ford made it run like shit. The EPA didn’t make the parts—they told auto manufacturers to include them.
