Can we appreciate the cameraman walked backwards uphill, slipped and managed to keep calm and continue filming? 1:10

I noticed that poor people somehow always have money for cigarettes.

My heart burns within me, when I look at the kids on the backs of their mothers. There is more than enough wealth in this world to eliminate poverty and hunger. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

*Many times we complain about life, but there are people around the world... who go through a worse situation than ours. And yet they are happy (in their own way).*

3 years later only a few families live on the mountain top. Those families also have a house at foot of the mountain but they want to stay on the top in summer. The whole village is now move and they got a brand new house for free. A new school has been build and even a small hospital. The people all could get free training to learn a new skills which provides them income. Nobody was forced to move but almost all moved because the quality of living is so much better now. Great work China.

I am a German, now have been living in china for 10 years, and visiting china for another 10 before that. And I can say that I have never seen a country advance so fast. I personally think creating a strong middle class for instance in a period of 10 to 15 years would not have been possible in any western country. yes, there are still poor areas, but as indicated by this video, they are working even on those.

""anti- poverty makes it out as if this is a bad thing. Trying to help the poor out of poverty is not a bad thing.

This is insane and so dangerous. Its great that they replaced their old wooden ladder with a sturdy steel. Still so dangerous 😱

This is crazy. Coming from a third world country I understand the struggle. Great that the government cares.

I live in China and know exactly how Chinese government helps the poor. My mother's family who lives in a village experienced it a lot. In 2006 it was poor there but now ppl there just sitting in a fully upgraded Communities with modern facilities everywhere in the village including their own house. Yes there are some areas still struggle but the gov do their job in a right way within incrediblely short time. I'm glad I've witnessed such miracle.

It's a huge country, China hasn't left these people behind at all. It's just that this is a very rural area however this journalist is making it sound like China has forgotten the Country people. Look at the house the government made for that family, China is doing good.

I wish this report could be less superficial. The solution to this particular village was not the steel ladder, of course. That was the interim measure. Million miles of highways and bridges have been built all over China to help remote villages more accessible. And the digital highway, of course. Now over 95% of all remote areas in China have fast broadband, and villagers can sell their produce nationwide. Not all poor areas are given the same formula by the way. Tens of thousands of "poverty alleviation cadres" have been sent to individual townships and villages and stationed their for years to devise plans that suit the local conditions (geographical, climate.., you name it). China's poverty alleviation project was a huge one, which lasted for decades, not three years, culminating in the successful completion of the project in 2021
