Save the boy - first aid advert by St John Ambulance

This film shows why it’s vitally important that everyone learns first aid. St John Ambulance has thousands of volunteers, yet it’s impossible for them to be there all the time. You can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

I just rediscovered this ad, that I watched ten years ago. It convinced me to go and do first aid. Well, actually, seeing someone collapse in a supermarket a few weeks earlier, really made me uneasy, and then this appeared on my YouTube feed and it was the final straw. I did a course with the Red Cross, and loved it. Whilst I never needed to use the skills, it pointed me in the direction of medicine, and now I'm a doctor. It's a good ad, thats what I'm saying.

Such a powerful advert, In my opinion I think schools should make students take classes like these. I mean It is such a good tool to have, I mean first aid and all that, It can really save so many life's. I'm 16 and I volunteered to st john ambulance service. My dream is to become a qualified paramedic when i'm older. :)

Hi Justin, Up to 140, 000 die each year when first aid could have saved them. We want people to realise that first aid is not just about putting on a plaster, it's about life and death. Through our ad we hope to raise awareness of basic life saving skills to prevent more needless deaths.

Hi John, I had a think about what you said and you raised a real good point. But I'd like you to think of it this way; The recovery position helps with breathing and airways, yes? You can live with a broken back, but you cannot live without air in your lungs. :)
