No other dungeon made me feel such despair as The Great Crystal from FFXII. But the Via Infinito from FFX-2 was probably the hardest for me. Just bad RNG was enough to finish you

Costlemark Tower in 15 took me literal DAYS (irl, not in-game) to complete, and the most infuriating thing was that the first time I went in, I had to reload my last save because the Jabberwocky boss glitched just like it was mentioned in the video. I also kept getting trapped in a loop leading to the same floor over and over and over again, and it was a literal nightmare fighting off the same hoardes of monsters repeatedly.

And the fact that I didn't even touch the surface of what lurked in the Subterra of the Pharos, 12's dungeon, has me terrified to go back in the next time I play... I only knew of the mark Ixion, and even he proved too tough a challenge for me. I went back in like 3 times in hopes of defeating him, but if Ixion didn't kill me, it was the huge toads down there with their poison abilities ㅠㅠ

FYI: the flan enemies and the ogre-looking enemies in Costlemark tower are super vulnerable to the Death Spell from the Ring of the Lucii, which makes the encounters against them a few seconds affair. I wish I’d known that a lot earlier.

Marsh Cave should be here. How is it that the first dungeon in the history of the series is one of the hardest 😭

I’d add the hardest section of Henne Mines in XII. You will need to have obtained 10 espers to even gain access there, then the mine will throw you some of the hardest enemies plus the last esper Zodiark who can instakill your whole party (unless you are smart enough). But it’s worth going all the way to get some of the best equipment, gaining access to Zodiark, remaining technicks, another ribbon, rare items, Zodiac Spear, missing magicks, etc. (In The Zodiac Age version). I can’t decide if this is harder than Great Crystal or Pharos Subterra. All are manageable but hard as hell.

FF12 Great Crystal was a nightmare especially if you're playing the PS2 version

I definitely regret entering the 15 dungeon with the Jabberwocky at the bottom; not because it was difficult, but entirely just because it took me way too long to finish
EDIT: COSTLEMARK

I had no idea Elidibus wasn't just a one off name in FFXIV...huh I should really take a few weeks to play FFTactics.

I sometimes wonder if the developers of Final Fantasy 12 were sadists or they thought that all of their players were a bunch of masochists. The ridiculous requirements to get a lot of the rare weapons that often had like a 2% chance of showing up and permanently disappear without any hint that you may have missed them, the massive dungeons like Underground Pharos and Great Crystal that were a pain to navigate, and several bosses that were designed to take hours to fight even if you never died and had to fight them again.

I'm sure it was mentioned in the first video, but just to reiterate: the Omega Dungeon in Final Fantasy X would absolutely crush the unwary and unprepared. Especially the Marlboros!

I surprised the Crystal Tower/World of Darkness combo didn't make on here. In the original version of III, there are no save points in the Crystal Tower, Xande casts meteor meaning you have to do some extra grinding to have a chance at beating him.

Then the Cloud of Darkness will kick your ass, and the game gives you no indication you can't win the fight so may waste valuable items. Then you are forced into the World of Darkness without getting the chance to leave the Crystal Tower or save. In order to render the Cloud of Darkness beatable you have to defeat four more bosses who are stronger than Xande. The final stretch of the game has enemies that hit just as hard as the bosses you have to defeat to weaken the Cloud of Darkness, who still no pushover.

The Subterra of the Pharos is mentioned. Me: flashbacks to those damn toads 😭

"How you're meant to know without a strategy guide is anyone's guess"
That was Squenix at that time. Filling their games with unknowable, esoteric nonsense to get you to buy the guide.

The Great Crystal from 12 will forever be my least favorite lol deep dungeon in tactics is rough. Ff12 pharos is rough too.

Even if Pitioss had no enemies, it is a nightmare that Costlemark can’t even compare to. Platforming in a game not meant for platforming is criminally bad game design. I say this as a huge XV fan.

The great crystal and its weirdly named areas from FF12 still gives me ptsd to this day via infinito from FFX-2 was pretty tough too.

I thought the four heroes of light was finally going to get a mention in a video lol

12 is such an amazing game, I love how frustrating it is in some parts.

You forgot the Sealed Temple from Final Fantasy 5, the sealed temple is a late dungeon where if you are unprepared, you will be facing tough enemies
