Indifference to things we can't control is definitely an aspect of stoicism, but stoicism does demand that we are extremely attentive to our actions in the world and their effects. For example, we should be unaffected by a toxic person who tries to bring us down, but should be very attentive to our own actions in order to avoid being that person.

4:30 Little note: "Memento mori" doesn't only mean "Remember that you will die"; it can also be read as "Remember that you are just a mortal man, doomed to die".
That's why when he was cheered by the crowds Marcus Aurelius paid a poor to stay be his side and whisper in his ear "Memento mori": in that instance it wasn't just "You will eventually die", it was more "Don't let yourself be fooled by the cheers: you are not a god but merely a mortal man".

Edit, when you comment “I can’t wait to be tested in wealth” it means youre failing the poverty test.. 😳

My mom was just sent to a nursing home. (I am fourteen) I was well aware we would never be able to see her again, but I did not cry. A nurse confronted me asking how I stayed emotionally calm, to which I responded "There isn't anything I can do against her dimentia. It's been going downhill for my entire life, now I must find a way to live on my own." I care about my mother greatly, but I figured out after countless breakups, deaths, suicides, neglect, my father leaving, etc. that it does not help to stay distraught, but to move forward.

I had a high school teacher who once said I was so stoic. I never really knew if he meant it as a compliment or not. But now, nearly 30 years later, I’ve decided to take it as a compliment. 🤔
