My brother had his colon removed in October 2022 due to severe ulcerative colitis, it was exactly year from diagnosis. All medications failed, but he has his life back now and wishes he had done the surgery in the July when the doctor first said it was looking like surgery was needed. But at 15 yo it was an awful decision to make.

I am into my 38th years since my ileostomy I suffered with colitis for 9 years before the op and my bowl was breaking down, I had a choice walk in to hospital or get carried in when my colon burst. It has not stopped me doing anything. I wish in fact I became a father to two great sons after the op and coming of all the medication keeping me alive.

I had a total Colectomy almost one year ago, due to a redundant Colon, and chronic constipation. I had 6 extra feet of Colon, some of which was dying due to scar tissue. I’m 60 and feel better than I have felt in several years!

Thank you for this video. It clears the uncertainty out of a person undergoing the surgery.

I've had it for 6 years I just found out today that they're thinking about removal. I am very nervous as I didn't think it was this bad.

I've got Crohn's Disease. I had a huge flare caused by some new medication and I had an internal bleed and my bowel perforated. I had 9 hours of Emergency surgery. I'm fine having an Ileostomy. It's just part of me. I'm alive that's the main thing. 😊💩

I had colon cancer 2011(partial removal) and Lung 2015(1 Upper lobe removal)... I had bleeding polyp(s) age 17 diagnosed tumors/cancer age 27(surgery). Dr said my excessive marijuana smoking slowed the growth drastically, plus bleeding at 17 was humiliating enough so I kept it to my self (Like a dumbs) until age 27 when it got severe. Situation went from spots of blood on stool to painfully falling asleep n waking up on the toilet hrs later and the water was pink from blood... Partial colon was removed and bag was placed and removed a yr later. I went from no control of my bowel movements and manually extracting under hot water 20+times a day to going 2.5 months with nothing solid, liquid or gas... Its been 2yrs and it's like I'm completely constipated. I have to take 4 to 8 extra strength exlax a day(or every 8hrs) just to be able to eat the next day comfortably the following day. Drs tell me to stop with the pills and to go stool softer route but I have no other choice... They are running tests n biopsies w a new gastro and 1 oncologist wants to reattach the bag but i'm allergic to adhesive... Watching cartoons (King of the hill), they ware talking about living without a colon, this is how I ended up here. Didn't think it was possible but I have too much a of bad eating habit. And just last month I found out that my stomach or colon can't be pumped or emptied... Which sucks... I went colonic route and worked, unclogged the first time I was 2month+ with no movement. After about a yr or maybe 10 visits later, I was closed again or my colon was "frozen from the aggressive radiation"... I had to stop because 3 visits in and nothing each time, so I was basically wasting my money... Had to get a 2 colonoscopies in 1 month and had to take the prep 4xs so I could start using again...

My mother was given blood thinners for a minor stroke which led to severe bleeding that could not be stopped in her colon. Surgery was a must to survive. After 52 hours, my mother died from the surgery.
