I am one of the lucky ones. Had my heart transplant 2008. Been 12 years still doing good. I will go for a check up and someone always ask how long have you had it. You say 12 years and they say WOW. Gets me to thinking If that wow is a good wow or a you should be dead wow.

I have acute aortic stenosis,
They tell me my hart is 46years old, I’m only 20 rn. My question is, what is the supposed shelf life of a heart could you put a 90 year old man’s heart into a 40 year old man and he could live to be 80 or 90 as well?

The world record of living with a donor heart is 20 some years say 25. It's best if your very young when you get the operation. So it's not a fix all. It's just postponing the inevitable. My sis in law has one. She had a baby prematurely had a heart attack during C-section and lost blood nearly dieing then a few years later the child found her on floor of bathroom she had a stroke now she can't talk or care for child without help.

If it can only survive for 10 years then no need to transplant.
