These 2 Things Keep You From Having Snap on Your Backhand

“Snap” on your backhand is required for maximum distance, consistency and control. Without snap, your backhand will not be effective.

There are just two things that cause you to not have snap. Here I share what snap is (both to the thrower and to the observer), what causes it and what two things can make it not happen for you.

I’ve watched quite a few videos over the past few months while learning to throw, but nobody has explained the basic mechanics of a throw and what they should result in as well as you. You’re a legend Scott!

Tried planting my foot before beginning the throw today. The first time I did it correctly, I was stunned when the disc flew an extra 100 feet, past the soccer goal and off into the woods! Had to hunt for my disc, but now I think I can see what I’ve been doing wrong. Thanks for the videos. Tried getting into your seminars but they fill up fast.

You are a true inspiration, Scott! Not only have I learned a lot from watching your videos over the years, but as a father of two kids with autism, what you do for the organisations hits home for me!

Love this. I feel like I stumble into snap occasionally but never know why. When it happens, the disc flies with so much more velocity, high speed turn, and distance. This gives me something to work on. Thank you for the content. Perfect length and amount of info.

I like your approach to teaching because you emphasize what the general mechanics are for power-to-speed. No one’s geometry is identical so trying to nitpick frame-by-frame only results in hyperfixation on the minutiae and ignores the fact that it is an athletic motion and some degree of it requires using your athleticism

I have had good snap in the past, but these days I have good snap on standstill shots and not as often on x-step shots. I try to avoid standstill as it makes my old knee hurt like an Eagle Grenade to the head so I need to take your advice here and figure out what is rotating out of sequence on my walk up. You are THE BEST at making things simple! Safe travels Scott.

For the 2-3 years I’ve been playing, I’ve never consistently thrown more than 300 feet. This week I saw your video on wrist swivel (which I realised I was doing on all my throws), and the next day i threw nose down consistently for the first time ever. Then I saw this video, and went to the field today to work on my timing. I beat my distance record by throwing 410 feet on a big s-line with my destroyer (!), and had consistant throws in the range 350-400 feet. Thank you for the amazing videos!

You are the Yoda of disc golf.
Your videos has helped me a lot with my game. The way you brake everything down and make it easy to understand is second to none!
Thanks bro and all the best. 🥰😎👌

I’ve been playing about 2 months and have been throwing an average of 250-300ft and today I consistently threw 400ft off the tee box because of these tips! Thank you so much

Unfortunately I do both of these but FORTUNATELY I have you ❤️

The speed explanation was really good. It's the same in traditional golf. A visibly smooth swing can generate big power (speed) at the point of impact.

Thanks for dedicating so much time and effort into teaching and passing on what you've figured out.

You're a great teacher, ambassador and disc golfer Scott. Hope you're doing well and living your best life. I love my Scott Stokely Bergs

Thanks Scott, starting to realize now I really have no wrist movement in my back hand and robbing myself of power and accuracy. Throwing forehand just feels like an automatic whipping motion and never been a problem. I always think of the whip analogy starting with the feet but guess I've been overlooking the other end at the wrist. Glad you're here to share your disc golf wisdom with us

It occurred to me that the term "grip lock" has gotten a bad rep. Snap IS grip lock. The difference is in form and aim. My longest flyers have been "grip locked" so I realized I need to work on my form to lock in the release point so it Snaps in the right direction. Also learned that I should be throwing slightly more over stable discs to handle my own torque which has been improving.
