Star Wars is an American epic space opera multimedia franchise created by George Lucas, which began with the eponymous 1977 film and quickly became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. The franchise has been expanded into various films and other media, including television series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions, and themed areas, comprising an all-encompassing fictional universe. In 2020, its total value was estimated at US$70 billion, and it is currently the fifth-highest-grossing media franchise of all time.

The original film (Star Wars), retroactively subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), was followed by the sequels Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983), forming the original Star Wars trilogy. Lucas later returned to filmmaking to direct a prequel trilogy, consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). In 2012, Lucas sold his production company to Disney, relinquishing his ownership of the franchise. This led to a sequel trilogy, consisting of Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015), Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017), and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

All nine films of the "Skywalker saga" were nominated for Academy Awards, with wins going to the first two releases. Together with the theatrical live action "anthology" films Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018), the combined box office revenue of the films equated to over US$10 billion, which makes it the second-highest-grossing film franchise of all time.[3][4] An additional film, Rogue Squadron, is planned for release. A number of other films, including an independent trilogy, are suggested to be in development. (From Wikipidia)

As a 9 year old kid back in 77 watching this in the cinemas, and the way the Falcon freighter made that emergency, full power exit from town just blew my mind. Amazing film making that stood the test of time

What was cool about this scene was how everybody on the street looks up at the escaping Falcon. Ships would come and go all the time, and hardly be noteworthy. But the Falcon is using full power immediately, and everyone in the whole town is looking up wondering WTF is going on.

I enjoy the way Han is defending the millennium falcon from the hostile empire and at the same time Luke’s criticism.

“Traveling through hyperspace ain’t like dusting crops, boy!” Haha. Even after 47 years, that’s still one of my favorite lines of all time.

“STOP THAT SHIP! BLAST ‘EM!”

It's funny Luke being an irritating kid who asks about everything in that sticky situation. "What's this? What's that?". Han is like, "Would you just sit tight and shut up?"

It's the perfect script of good vs evil that never gets old. Perfect cast of characters-the shady but altogether good smugglers, the naive farm kid destined to greatness, the old warrior/teacher, and the droids' providing comic relief.

Farewell to Peter Mayhew-Chewbacca, and Carrie Fisher-Princess Leia Organa. Both of you are deeply missed.

The entire last minute communicates SO much about space travel in the Star Wars universe. Lucas was making this all up and somehow managed to pack an unbelievable amount of info into a very small amount of time on screen. You learn the ability to the Empire to be anywhere at anytime, you learn the Millenium Falcon (despite Han Solo's claims) isn't fast enough to outrun Imperial cruisers over a long period, you learn that ships have deflector shields, you learn that "hyperspace" and "light speed" are pretty much the same thing (a way of traveling very fast to wherever you want in the galaxy), and you learn you can't just randomly jump to hyperspace whenever you want or else bad things could happen.

The jump to light speed with the stars beginning to streak was mind blowing in 1977.

I saw this scene on a summer movie teaser as a 14 year old kid, and it literally blew my mind, I'd never seen anything close to this before.

This is the most impressive display of Blaster Fire power in the entire franchise. Those blasters are hitting like 50 cals!

I still get goosebumps watching this scene now and then. Takes me back being a kid in an instant. I love that I had star wars in my childhood.

1:05 Garindan's voice is actually the distorted voice of John Wayne saying, "All right! What are you doin' in this town?" Sound designer Ben Burtt dug some tape loops out of the trash that were outtakes from one of Wayne's last movies, and thus this was the Duke's final screen performance.

Han: Don’t worry I know some maneuvers.

Luke: Is that it? We’re slightly going to the left.

Imperial officer 1: Sir!! He’s going slightly to the left.

Imperial officer 2: He sure knows some maneuvers!!
