Bonjour à tous.

This week at the chateau, we take a look back at when we bought the crumbling Chateau de Lalacelle. Abandoned for over 40 years, this beautiful monument was in a sad state of disrepair, with crumbling chimneys, broken widows and leaking roof, the chateau did not have must life left in her.

With the start of the restoration in 2021 we look through some of the massive jobs in 10 minutes that the family has achieved in a year.

About us,

We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.

The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.

Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

Wonderful. As a Frenchman, I thank you for choosing France, choosing this castle, and do all the amazing job you did (and I'm sure you're continuing to do) in it. Without you, it would most probably have fallen even more into decay and would never have find its glory back. I'm glad you were able to make it, despite Brexit. British people will always be welcome in France no matter what. Bises, Jean-Alexandre.

I breaks my heart to see houses and grand chateaus abandoned like that. I'm so glad this one was saved!

Looks like this beautiful house got caught at the right time before there was a lot of internal damage from the outside weather getting in. Nice to see it getting restored.

You are clearly a family that is not afraid of hard work! I love how involved your son is in the project and can’t wait to see your progress.

They don’t make homes like this anymore. The craftsmanship in the wood work alone… thank you for restoring it. I love wood in houses. ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve moved myself to tears thinking of how many sad, lonely Christmases this poor building had to sit through before you guys came along. You can just tell there’s already a cozy, joyous atmosphere filled with hope and love. Best wishes for the rest of the transformation! 🥰

What a charming house! It is amazing that one can still find houses like that. I can't believe that it was abandoned before. As someone who has also moved into an old house, I do believe that the houses "feel" when life is coming back into them.

This is the first time when the caption said renovated and it wasn’t destroyed and left fairly the same and not to cutseyed up. Thank you thank
You. Finally some people who get it and know how to protect the way it was built and to leave it alone

Wow! Just love love love it. My parents restored an 1850s farmhouse near the Delaware River. There's no joy like bringing a forgotten beauty back to life.

Please, though, demonstrate safe restoration work. It's starting to drive me crazy when I watch videos where people are working on buildings and don't wear masks or protective eye gear. I bit my tongue a thousand times watching Shawn James and then he got a splinter in his eye. He now wears protective glasses while chopping and sanding. There's a young Danish boy building a fantastic cabin who never wears any protective gear. Chips are flying everywhere; all it takes is one to blind you or cause serious damage. Just as important is working with a mask, You were not wearing masks when sanding or putting down stains. ANY sanding raises wood dust. When that gets in your lungs it causes a condition akin to black lung. The sawdust irritates the lungs and can do lasting damage. Please be safe! It's so important that those who have an audience demonstrate safe practices. Thanks!

It’s amazing! The original woodwork is just stunning. Love how the entire family is involved. That you went to all the work decorating for Christmas days this is not just a Chateau, it’s a home.

Absolutely astounding to see all the work accomplished in just one year. And all done not necessarily in the order you all had planned. Congrats to the whole family, the five of you there and those who came to help. I very much look forward to watching as the future unfolds.
