It should be noted that the name, _El, _ is used as a suffix in the names of many people and places, such as, Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, Chamuel (Camael), Raphael, Jophiel, and Zadkiel, Samuel, Ezekiel, Daniel, Joel, Ariel, Babel, Bethel, Kabzeel, Mount Carmel, Penuel, and of course, Israel. This is just a short list of many, and _El_ was also used as a prefix in many names as well... Basically, when used as a prefix or suffix, the name _El_ simply meant, _God._ For example, my middle name, _Daniel, _ means, "God is my judge", as El is God, and Dan were the tribe of judges...

basically the israelites, a subset of the caaninites, had a pantheon which head was el elyon. Yahweh worshippers who gained political power adopted the ideas of El Elyon for Yahweh and made post hoc rational as if they were the same.

El Is NOT a separate deity from Yahweh. It was a simple widely used title/name for the creator God in that part of the world during that epoch.

No, the israelites did not worship Baal either. That's not a thing. In my study of history, I can't find any proof of that.
