How Dizziness Can Be Caused By Migraine

This presentation to the House Ear Clinic in 2022 reviews the pathophysiology of migraine and walks through sites of dizziness symptom generation at each anatomic area affected. Sites discussed are the cerebral cortex, the vestibular nuclei, the cerebellar vermis, the thalamus and the inner ear itself. There presentation is followed by a candid discussion. Various symptom types pathologies are discussed including Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, feeling displaced in space, Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness(PPPD), vestibular migraine and rocking dizziness. The connection between migraine and Meniere's disease and BPPV is also discussed. The role of the parasympathetic nervous system in migraine is also addressed. The role of migraine in tinnitus is covered in the discussion.

I suffered from migraines for more than 25 years and there was no diagnosis that this could be vestibular migraine. Just managed it with Lyrica . I also have tinnitus for more than 14 years. Now recently I had vertigo and am taking physiotherapy to relieve symptoms.
This video is very informative and helpful. I have to wait for 12 to 18 months before I can see my Neurologist.
I am from Ottawa, Canada and kind of disappointed at the medical system was not good enough to even make a proper diagnosis .

As a 25+ year sufferer of VM and migraine I'm so thankful for finally seeing someone show interest in studying this awful syndrome... I take venlafaxine, nortriptyline, and atogepant daily to stay functional. Yes it runs in my family unfortunately. Hoping for some relief in menopause someday.

I was thinking I found this to be what causes my tinnitus and vertigo because I have migraines and much of them stopped most of the time. But the. I got back my CT scan which my ENT ordered. I have a Dehisance on one ear. I am not sure what my ENT will tell me. My Audiologist told me, after my Audio testing for vertigo, that my vertigo is Central vs my ear. Since I read Dehisance was very rare, I did not expect any funding in my CT scan. I bet I actually have birhe Dehisance and Vestibular Migraine..

Ridge where the ‘’ lava ‘’ is gushing out with incredible FORCE ! The rim of the volcano becomes hyper sensitive so when the volcano settles down and the lava is at the peak or rim of the volcano any movement AT ALL ! The over sensitive volcano ridges picks up on most minor of movement Causing an overreaction of movement than what is actually occurring. Also …. Any medication that affects the hypothalamus can also ‘’ set this chain of events off ‘’ in my opinion and also if you where prone to car sickness ‘’ motion ‘’ sickness I believe you will have some sort of vestibular issues later in life . Also in childhood if having migraines so bad the only recourse of action to relieve the symptoms is to throw up ! And 9x out of 10 it WORKS 👍🏻 but after this event the person involved is EXTREMELY FATIGUED ! So much so a rest or sleep period is MANDATORY ! So pain as a child from the migraines where vomiting is the remedy. A break from all migraines my occur in ages 25 -35 maybe later stretching into the early 40s And in adulthood ocular dysfunction comes to play aurora, hyperacusis, tinnitus, vertigo rocking as yes on a boat, etc. you may also see color pattern distortions certain colors might set you off when running congruent red and green stripe patterns, or blue and red are most common .all of this is going on but without the pain that was involved during childhood you have now in place a myriad of symptoms during adulthood-migraine episodes . also taste and smell may be also affected you may also experience a short burst of jittery, energy or talkativeness befor the brunt full effects of the on coming vestibular migraine hits any head jostling around in any direction or a quick snappy movement may hurt best explained by the analogy ‘’ the ripe peach syndrome.’’ Whereas your brain feels like It’s the seed inside a ripe peach banging around hitting your skull lining as to be free-floating and loose with no cushion in between the two… you may also notice extreme fatigue throughout the process of the vestibular migraine where sleep is needed or extreme rest. And you also have non-functionality of your normal day-to-day tasks throughout this time . and also it it no longer is a ‘’ cut and dry ‘’ deal… whereas simply throwing up, will remedy all symptoms until next occurrence in childhood . In adulthood, you have many strange new symptoms, but they may plague you 3 times a week or once a week or everyday of the Month 24 hrs a day ! ……………... your video was very well put together with great illustration and explanation and follow through I greatly appreciate it.
