The fact that we are alive on this random planet in the middle of an insanely unimaginably large universe of emptiness just makes no sense. Wish I was born 5000 years in the future when we have more answers.

A light year is a measure of distance and not time.

Space is truly insane and mind boggling

I bet the absolute magnitude of the accretion disc of that black hole must be a lot for it to be visible from so far. Imagine it was only 100 light years away .☠️

The images are from the past due to speed of light limits... 😭

I wonder if black holes are transport portals to other destinations in the galaxies for souls in the afterlife. If not, what goes in has to come out somewhere else at some point in space or time.

Any news on the closest one? That’s what I’m worried about.

I looked at the images but can't understand how they can determine it to be a black hole from the visual blur of light in the photo. Nor can I understand how they can express the enhanced images of its supposed look, without any actual closer examples to draw accurate imagery from.

It was idiotic to describe what a Black Hole is, because everyone over 5 (who is not mentally impaired) knows what a Black Hole is. Much of this video treats basic science like it is something not known by the average elementary school child. NBC needs to do better and hire better reporters - who treat science like the serious topic that it is!!!

I went inside a black hole once, I’ll never make that mistake again. My Curiosity has scarred me for the rest of my life.

If you want to visualize a social version of a black hole; imagine political parties or Taylor Swift fans. The gravity pulling people towards the focal points, under the assumption they know what they're focusing on without knowing it's true state.
