When I worked in the Chrysler Building from the 80's to the early 2000's, I used to climb the ladder inside the spire and eat my lunch. It was the very top of the building and the space was very tiny, but I did it from time to time over the years. I'm in my 60's now and I can't believe I was that crazy. It was very dangerous.

I worked for a multi-national company which in its early days was based in the PANAM building, but had been promised the balcony level of the Chrysler Building. The company waited 10 years until the 61st floor of the Chrysler Building became vacant, then moved in. When visiting the corporate office it was a moving experience seeing NY from the highest balcony in the city, the gargoyles on each corner were enormous. The greatest pleasure was the interior of the building and elevators art decor, such beautiful workmanship. Great memories.

In 1986 friend and I tried ti go up in the elevators but got caught. We begged the security guard to let us go up. He got the maintenance manager to give us a tour. It was always my favorite building. There is a romance it has that the Empire State does not. I remember so much to this day and will always be grateful and feel a sense of privilege opening up a window and breathing the NYC air from the top of the Chrysler building.

Thanks for sharing this video. Back in the 1980’s I went in with a New Yorker friend, just walked in like we owned the place. We took the elevators way up to where those little windows near the top are. We found this small room with slightly worn but beautiful wood paneling and a very old fashioned telephone switchboard complete with patch cables. My friend Adam has passed away, but I’ll always have the memories. 😊

The Spire is what really sells the Chrysler Building for me! Such beautiful design. Wish they still made skyscrapers like this. The art-deco era had many amazing architecture come from it with everything from buildings, cars and locomotives!

I bought and put together a paper model kit of the Chrysler Building. It remains my favorite model to this day.

The Chrysler building is truly unique in all the world; such a beautiful, architectural masterpiece - likely never to be duplicated.

My great uncle Philly worked on constructing those beautiful arches. I always think of him every time I see this building.

Kurt Vonnegut Jr. wrote so beautifully about the Chrysler Building Spire. He constructed a fantasy where "The American Harp Company" used the space as their showroom, and that for decades canaries were allowed to fly free within the space. These birds were of course, trained to poop into teacups that were placed around the room. As you do...

I ended up within a subway ride's distance of Manhattan about ten years ago, and had to go downtown and see the new WTC. I booked a bus tour and while driving around the city, fell in love with the Chrysler Bldg. The Freedom Tower and other skyscrapers are impressive in their own ways but nothing was as captivating as that one.

I had an attic above my Ybor City Condo like this. I realized my bedroom was not insulated with big windows beaming into it. And pigeons were living there, that was my first tip, the sound of pigeons, lol. Going up there with a specialist was a memorable event. I'm happy I sold it in 2023 with Hurricane Milton coming this week. Good luck Quarter at Ybor!

I live in Chicago and would love to see the inside of the Mather Tower spire. It's commonly known as the city's skinniest skyscraper. It's on Wacker avenue, constructed in 1929

Pretty sure inside there is the nest of a giant avian reptile. I saw it on TV.

Eliminating that beautiful Art Deco room and restaurant was a crime.

This building was built in two years. In the UK it can take 2 years to repair a short stretch of road.

It’s been my favorite NYC building forever. Especially since my excursion in 1996 when our midtown hotel suite featured a wonderfully throwback urban view of its silvery spear and gargoyle -guarded excellence.
