When diagnosing low fuel pressure or other electric fuel pump related problems, many Apprentice Technicians and Do-It-Yourselfers often neglect to check the fuel pump's power and ground AT THE FUEL PUMP. This short Back To Basics video explains a simple procedure for this important diagnostic step.

Thank you for the info about the jumper connection. Very useful knowledge that isn't generally taught

Great vid. Straight to the point. Makes sense, ground to ground should essentially be a direct connection if it's good.

Great video. The Delphi FG0115 is supposed to come with a whole wiring harness according to multiple sources, so that saves from having to mess with the wiring. A large majority of the pumps just come with a kit to be able to splice in the new connector.

Looks like you changed setting on meter for 2nd test, but both show meter at 20?

What direction would you look to address a low-voltage result on the fuel pump hot wire, as in 6.5 volts, for example?

Power and ground tests are only valid if the circuit is loaded. The connector should be plugged in and back probed with the pump on to do these tests. Love your channel!

The vehicle in question is a 2001 Jetta. It has a quick connect at the in-tank fuel pump, located under the passenger side rear seat. When I simulate your test, I've got good ground, but zero(0) voltage at the connector with the key in the on position. In your opinion, what possibly might be at fault?

So forever later - 30 year old mustang - if that nut is corroded extremely you think it would interrupt that first connection?- which would be that fuel pump fuse?

Fuel pump problem could cause inaccurate fuel gauge reading?

Is there any way to fix the connector issue on the later model gmc fuel pumps? Is there a brand of pump that you would suggest to eliminate this issue?

Quick question is what Im dealing with and so I wasnt getting any readings at the plug so I went straight to the socket itself where I got ground .01 but positive i got zeros at the socket so what does that mean? If you dont mind Id be greatful for any ideas? thanks

You didn't test the pump in situ to tell you if the pump was good or bad before removing it regardless of the supply wires you tested

What tool were you using to check the voltage I want to purchase one

my dodge ram is more than 0.04 in the view on 1:31 and 1:41, your voltmeter is not in the same position as when it is seen at 1:42. Then you obviously switch 1:54 to check power, and the voltmeter doesn't change from when seen at 1:42.

When you show the ground number, the voltmeter is set to 20V. Then when you check power, the video shows you clicking up twice to 20V. A small editing mistake?

My 1999 Toyota celica doesn’t get power to the pump until the key is cranked, all the fuses and relays are good
