STANDARD LOFT vs ADJUSTED LOFT | Golf Driver Loft Test

The golf driver loft is one of the most important measurements in any driver fitting at 2nd Swing. With a variety of options offered by manufacturers, it's vital to select the right one for your driver to optimize performance. Furthermore, it's also important to optimize your driver through the adjustable hosel, while understanding that it will impact the golf driver loft.

In this video, 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald and Taylor Ledwein conduct a Trackman test featuring a PING G410 Plus driver at 10.5 degrees of loft in a standard setting, and a PING G410 Plus driver at 9 degrees of standard loft adjusted up +1.5 degrees. Drew and Taylor discuss how the performance may differ and interpret the data delivered by Trackman.

Amazing video. We need more videos on how all the “tech” pans out for us in terms of numbers and flight characteristics. This bottom lines it in relatable terms perfectly. Thank you!

What seems to be missing here is a key component of how the loft change actually takes effect. Once the loft has been adjusted, the change in loft ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE GOLFER RETURNS THE CLUBFACE TO SQUARE AT ADDRESS. If the golfer adjusts the loft but doesn't square the face at address, all that has changed is the face angle. The reason that adding loft closes the face is because the expectation is that the golfer will then return the face to square, which is what actually then produces the increased loft. Vice versa for lowering the loft - this opens the face and when the golfer returns the face to square at address, that's when the loft decreases.

it would be interesting 12*-1.5* adjusted to be tested too

i definitly fit these tests. i have a 10.5deg ping g430. i was playing around with the setting and found that going to the FLAT setting and adding 1deg of loft has actually improved my hits. its amazing how much improvement i got in dispersion

I game a 10.5* PING G425 MAX driver set to the small minus sign (-1*) and a 14 gram back weight (instead of standard 28 gram weight) in the neutral setting with Fujikura shaft. This setup took a bit more draw out of my shot shape, dropped my spin by 200 revolutions, and added 10 yards more carry. It just works.

First video I’ve seen on driver adjustment differences being measured. Awesome. I did this just recently with my driver, but I changed the setting to de-loft it. It introduced a change to the club face angle and gave me more distance due to an increase in club speed I made, but I had to compensate for the change in face. I’ll then have to re-adjust again when I get fit for a new driver in a more natural setting.

I play the same driver head 9deg.
I adjusted it to 10deg but flat setting to prevent a left dispersion.
Most other models, you don't have the flat setting. That what I love about Ping.
Also just ordered a G430 to replace my G410. Can wait for the snow to melt

This is the exact video I needed to see as I've been asking that question for weeks. I'm about to buy and get fitted and this issue has haunted me! Spending all this $ on fitting and big $ drivers I wanna know I had all the info available and proper testing parameters.

Great comparison, I have a 9 degree F9 cobra and now I'll definitely knock it up to 10.5 to see what it does, very cool ty

This is an interesting test, I have the Cobra LTDx Max driver at 10.5 and I have add the loft to 11.5 with the face slightly closed and this is the best setup for my swing now!

it would be interesting to see this test with the Callaway hosel ( maybe Krank since IIRC it has 1 more adjustment) to see if being able to adjust the loft/lie, ect independently has similar results or if buying the loft you intend to hit is a better choice in that situation

0:38 I do exactly the opposite. Since many drivers are more closed than I like, I take a 10* driver and adjust down to 9-9.5 so that the face OPENS some - rather than taking a 9* driver and adjusting up.

Great video. Got 9* G430 max 10k to play at 10.5*.

I play the Taylormade Sim 2 Max 10.5 degree driver but i play it at 9.75 degrees of loft.

So would lofting down and opening the face slightly increase spin ?

Thanks

good vid, i usually go F -1 on my ping hybrids/woods to help lessen my hard draws, my driver ball speed is 146mph ish and i love the ping tour reg, she has less ball speed and a stiff shaft? curious if she tried tour reg or mit orange reg?
