Hi Ajay,

Great video thanks.

Can I please just ask. If you send audio through a camera, does the camera have to have a microphone?

I have connected a SMTAV PTZ camera into an SDI input, but not getting any sound from the camera. The PTZ camera does not have a built in microphone, but I have inserted a microphone into the audio in jack on back of the camera. Im not sure if I needed to insert the microphone as I thought the Atem on board sound will capture the sound from the camera, please correct me if I'm wrong.

How can I get sound coming from the Camera?

Thank you.

Hey AJay, thanks for your content, it's extremely useful. I'm looking to do a stream setup for our small church. I plan to get 2 NDI PTZs, with IP controller. I'm also planning to use OBS for streaming. Do I need the ATEM mini? I'm wondering if the OBS alone is enough using the NDI plugin? That way I'd save some cost on the ATEM plus HDMI cables. Would this work or the ATEM is a must have? Thanks!

I don't work directly with any ministry, I have filmed a few events for some though.

PZTs have become a necessity for my workflow. My most used setup uses 2 plus one static camera that is a full shot of the stage/main area.

Most venues want to show the audience so I put one ptz at the front and the other at the back. Depending on how much will be going on in main area, I'll often add a third or fourth PTZ camera. In which case I've found the ATEM mini Extreme a must especially if the client wants additional graphics.

You can run the ATEM to Pro-presenter or OBS but I prefer to run the graphics to the ATEM instead. I just find it easier to manage. In a 4+ input setup the 4 port ATEM is not enough. It's fine for 3 or fewer cameras plus graphics from a PC or Hyperdeck though.

I've also found that many clients often want edited versions of an event after the fact. In which case the ISO versions of the ATEM are really handy. You almost always get something wrong during the live production. So having isolated recordings makes life so much easier for post production editing.

Many venues especially Churches have their own audio systems you can tap into but I have an 8 channel mixer and a variety of mics, for when have to get my own audio. I started with 4 channels and I'm considering getting something larger. I once had 8 mics on stage for a panel plus they wanted mics for the audience. Luckily I still have the 4 channel but it would have been easier to manage with one board.

If I have to, I can run everything myself but a 3 or more person crew makes it much easier. One to run the PTZs, one for audio, and the third for the switcher. On occasion I have one person dedicated for graphics. Like when filming something like sporting events.

You can easily start out with one hand held camera but over time you will find the need to grow. People are constantly wanting you to provide something closer to a professional broadcast television production.

It's almost impossible to prepare for every eventuality so I do recommend to start small and add more as you need. Otherwise you may end up buying a bunch of stuff you don't need. It can get very expensive and I haven't even touched on lighting.

For a ministry you may not need additional lighting but you'll be able to find out if or what you need after you've filmed a few events.

Which brand one do you recommend for church? Fomako 30x vs Avkans 30x vs Smtav. Thank you.

Love the information you provide. Our church has basically a $0 budget. We have a Mackie SR32-4 VLZ Pro mixer. I currently have set up our live streaming with the following equipment (all owned by me); Canon EOS T5 camera on tripod for zoomed view. Logitech webcam for wide angle sanctuary view, laptop running OBS Studio, Zoom client for the remote viewers, simultaneously stream to YouTube, RCA from mixer tape out to Roxio RCA to USB audio device. Laptop, cameras, Roxio adapter all personally owned. The church has spent $0 on the live streaming setup because they have no $ for that. I had to guess and watch YouTube videos for this setup. Is there a better way to get audio from the mixer to the Zoom/YouTube/OBS feed? Should I be using different outputs from the mixer? Should i be going directly into the laptop with a 3.5mm connection rather than use the Roxio adapter? I thought of using the CONTROL ROOM OUT connections to the 3.5mm connection on the laptop. I don't know how that would work. Any information would be great. Your "low cost" is WAY too much for us. ALL of the equipment was already owned so no cost so far to set up the live streaming. You can see/hear results of the output at the YouTube channel @allwoodcommunitychurch.

What would you recommend for a church that does not have a building and moves around for the internet?
