In this video, Scott Morris covers the JUNOS show command options and provides a match command tutorial. He’ll discuss the four types of show interfaces: terse, normal, detail, and extensive, as well as demonstrating the kind of information each one will provide.

Scott begins by covering the four types of show interfaces.

The first is terse and provides a very brief output of the various interfaces, their status, and an up and down address.

The second is a normal view, which provides quite a bit more information, including a lot of the various specifics for the router or switch you’re dealing with.

Next is the detailed view, which shows packets per second, queuing options, and some of the states of logic that are occurring.

Finally, there’s extensive, which gives you nearly all of the information you could ever want.

Scott will show the type of information you can expect from each one and then briefly describe when you’d want to use each interface.

Good nugget. Would to see a matching statement for a interface oversubscribing the cpu/memory/flash? This command would help in troubleshooting.
